Having only released their debut LP in 2023, DOOM GONG has quickly become a mainstay of the US psych scene. Bringing their energetic and seamless live show to numerous music festivals like Back Alley Ballyhoo (IN), Expansion Psychedelic Festival (KY), Moonshiners Ball (KY), Crave Festival (KY), Moonshadow Music Festival (IN) alongside heavy hitters of modern rock including The Black Angels, Allah Las, King Buffalo, Bass Drum of Death, Death Valley Girls, HOLY WAVE, Ron Gallo, and many others.
After completing their debut LP, the band took no time off and followed up with their second LP (also in 2023) with the release of “Dream Behemoth”. This album saw the band collaborate with a full jazz big band, and a string quartet not only for the recording of the album, but also for the Nov. ’23 album release performance (Live at The Whirling Tiger).
BUT, DOOM GONG isn’t done just yet: the band has a packed 2024 ahead. Including the release of a 3rd studio LP, the aforementioned live album, a slew of singles, many festival appearances around the US and a North-Eastern US/Canadian tour in the summer.
Jake Schaefer is a rock (and roll!) multi instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, engineer, and dude in the world.
He is a founding member of One Way Out, with whom he has spent over half his life playing frenetic live shows with around the country. In 2023, he self produced their third full length album, “Jimmy T’s Place,” in seven different locations from Uruguay to New York. The record’s tour included the band’s first shows in Los Angeles and Nashville, as well as a support date for THE BOBBY LEES on their final tour.
After moving to New York in 2022, he began work on a solo project, merging the pummeling energy of psychedelic garage acts like King Gizzard and Thee Oh Sees with the songwriting style of T. Rex and Wilco. He began work on his debut album in fall 2022, self producing and playing all instruments. To adapt the songs to a live setting, he formed The Realm of Possibility, featuring an ever rotating cast of musicians, with the aim of creating a concert experience unique to the players, audience members, and happenings in the moment of the show.
He also formed Dell’Acqua upon arriving in the city with a focus on extended psychedelic jams, often switching instruments multiple times in a set.
Jake has played guitar and drums for artists including Grace VanderWaal, Daffo, Carter Lou and the Project, Embassy Rowe, Mercer Henderson, and more.
Additionally, Jake has produced and engineered records for One Way Out, himself, Dell’Acqua, and Freddy Gang. He has studied recording with Ben Green, Bob Power, and Kenta Yonesaka. Similar to his live performances, Jake likes to approach recording with the intent to capture a specific moment in time, while honing in on the details.
