About the event

Terra Firma

Soul, jazz, and R&B band Terra Firma got their start in January 2020 as 4 friends playing in front of over 400 people as an opening act at a local album release show. After bringing the house down with their unique takes on well-beloved covers, they decided to make it official and form Terra Firma the Band. Since appearing at Union Stage in 2020, Terra Firma has played in notable DMV venues such as Jammin Java, The Block (including a three month residency in 2021), Capitol Cider House, Frank Agbro’s “6ft Aparty”, and many more. They’ve also made appearances on WPFW 89.3 FM and in The Washington Post.  Each member hails from the DC Metro Area and contributes musical elements from a diverse array of genres, including classic R&B and soul, straight-ahead jazz, funk, DC go-go, hip hop, West African rhythm, and catchy pop hooks. They are currently writing new original music, distinctive for Terra Firma’s genre-bending sound, arresting lyrics, and the infusion of fun that comes from playing music with your friends. They intend to bring this new music to audiences everywhere soon, in the studio and live on stage. Visit Terra Firma’s website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram for updates on their upcoming shows and current projects.

Jarreau Williams

American R&B singer/songwriter Jarreau (juh-ROW) Williams is known around the DMV as the “man with the golden pipes.” The Alexandria, VA native and 4x Wammie Award winner is a charismatic front-man who brings high-energy, soul, funk, humor and a special form of kindness to every performance. His smooth, powerhouse vocals fused with 70s funk, 80s soul, 90s new jack swing, and 00s hip-hop/R&B influenced grooves, catchy pop hooks, beatbox, and lyrical innuendo keep listeners fantasized; wanting more stories of love, positivity, truth, and the quest for freedom. His vocal stylings have been compared to the likes of Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and The Weeknd. Other influences include Justin Timberlake, Usher, Prince, Whitney Houston, and Luther Vandross to name a few. Since 2016, Williams and his band, JWX: The Jarreau Williams Experience, have been entertaining crowds at some of DC’s premier music venues including 9:30 Club, Blues Alley, Farm Brew LIVE, and Jammin Java… and have appeared in major area music festivals like DC Music Rocks, PIKEtoberfest, Petalpalooza, The Wharf and Capitol Riverfront Summer Series. Jarreau’s professional credits include backing 4-time Grammy Award winner Michael Buble, praise and worship with President Barack Obama and the First Family, as well as performing the National Anthem for thousands in Washington DC’s most prominent professional sports arenas. Anyone who has seen Jarreau perform will agree, it is truly an ‘experience’ from the moment he grabs the microphone. His enchanting personality and extraordinary voice has a way of creating special moments; inviting you to join in the experience right along with him.
