About the event

Skelp

Skelp was formed in September of 1995 by singer/guitarist David McEwan (formerly
from the D.C. based band Belfire). Some of Skelp's higher profile shows include an
opening slot at The Black Cat with Supergrass, the last night at the "Old 9:30 club",

The Metro Cafe with Cyclefly and many enjoyable shows with many other great DC
bands all over DC.

Skelp, at its core, is a song driven, punk rock band with pop sensibilities. The Anglo-
American component is part of the band’s charm. So depending on one’s record
collection, recent converts may compare Skelp to The Jam, The Pixies, The Clash,
Husker Du, The Afghan Whigs, and Social Distortion.

Skelp founding member McEwan, a Glasgow Scotland native, had emigrated from
London to D.C. in the mid/late 1980s.  He also lived in London where he performed
with several bands including The Plague and Psychedelic Hearse.

Bassist Aaron grew up in and lived in Wyandotte Michigan. He played bass in Borrowed Time out of Trenton, Michigan 1994 thru 1997, various cover bands throughout the years, and played bass in The Stomp Rockets out of Detroit 2016 thru 2023. Aaron moved to the Washington DC region in 2023.

Drummer Chris grew up traveling the world and playing with various bands and
styles.  He lived in the suburbs of Portland Oregon during the late 1990s and had the
privilege of playing at the famous Satyricon nightclub. Though he was in and out of
the DC Metro area from 1990 on, he permanently moved to the region in 1998.

The Clown Foundation

The Clown Foundation was born in 2016. They live at the Clown Factory in Glover Park, Washington, DC.
Their first album, The History of Snipe, explored the post-punkification of the insides of pickup trucks with perceived afflictions. But after a group-wide epiphany, they decided to change course for the next album, The Red Toad, and are now harnessing electrons to envelope brains with lovingly crafted psychefrantic waves in the form of feedback symphonies.
The Clowns consist of Ben Cross (MK Ultra, Skelp, The Gully Jimson Quartet) on drums, Dean Hill (Trailer Park Romeos, The Drive In) on bass, Fabrice Martin (Looking For Lester, 16th & T) on keys and other things, and Pat Rice (The Great Shakes, The Cool Italians, Master Cylinder, The Skinnys, The Lincoln Brigade) on guitar and vocals.
The Clown Foundation are finishing up their second album which will be available early 2024. Thank you.
