About the event

Karen Jonas

Americana/Alt-Country songwriter Karen Jonas knows how to tell a story. She’s both “warmly nostalgic” (American Songwriter) and “insightful, tenacious, and vulnerable” (No Depression). With “vocals that twist and snap with tension and emotional depth” and a dynamic band, it’s no wonder Karen is turning heads all around the world (Country Music People, U.K.). Flanked by her longtime guitarist the inimitable Tim Bray, bassist Seth Morrissey and Seth Brown on drums, she dazzles with energy that showcases their eight-year touring chemistry and the true joy of their art. Karen has released five full-length records and is a three-time Wammie (Washington Area Music) Award winner for Best Country and Americana Artist, Mid Atlantic Song Contest winner, Ameripolitan Award nominee, and official SXSW and UK Americanafest Showcasing Artist. As Parklife Mag DC put it, “the voice of country music in the DMV is a big, bright voice that belongs to Virginia native Karen Jonas.”

Bobby Thompson

Blues and folk singer-songwriter Bobby Thompson is carrying on the tradition set forth by artists like Taj Mahal, John Hammond Jr, and a host of other folk songwriters in the blues tradition. Bobby’s work ranges from all-out blues rockers, to delicate folk songs that are written straight from his heart. Winner of the 2018 Wammie for Best Blues Album, his 2019 self-titled release featured songs such as ‘On the Ground’ and ‘My Everything’, which not only work in full-band arrangements, but stand on their own when it’s just him and an acoustic guitar. Having toured internationally since 2015, Bobby has now streamlined his group to an acoustic trio, featuring upright bass, drums, and three-part harmonies. His latest album, ‘Old Home’, is his first all-acoustic based work, featuring 8 new originals, and is setting the tone for a new album in 2023. TJ Magazine once wrote that “Thompson takes you through striking musical landscapes, from blues to folk, soul, and rock, offering kaleidoscopic glimpses of his musical roots.” Come experience that journey yourself.
