JELLY ROLL MORTALS PERFORM THE BEST OF THE LOVIN’ SPOONFUL
The Lovin’ Spoonful burst onto the radio airwaves in 1966 with Do You Believe In Magic, an instantly catchy slice of perfect pop that captured the mood of young America and started a steady stream of hits for the band- You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice, Nashville Cats, Daydream, Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind & Summer in The City, soon followed and all rose to the top of the charts. The band, led by NYC folkie John Sebastian and including guitarist Zal Yanovsky, bassist Steve Boone and drummer Joe Butler sounded light and breezy, right at home on AM radio but they were actually superb & sneakily subversive musicians who managed to include elements of folk, New Orleans, country, Tin Pan alley, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, ragtime, and blues into a seamless pop sound that rewarded listeners whether they were casual or devoted fans.
Jelly Roll Mortals are a popular and long running DC based band comprised of Scott McKnight, Bill Williams, Arch Alcantara, Jim Faris & Steve Wohrle. The bands’ broad musical tastes, strong vocals and multi instrumental wizardry makes them a perfect fit to bring the Lovin Spoonfuls’ songs to life on stage. The band boasts several acclaimed songwriters whose tunes have appeared on albums by Last Train Home & The Neighbors.
