About the event

A Shrewdness of Apes

A Shrewdness of Apes (ASOA) is DC prog, an ambitious three-piece inspired by the likes of Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Yes, and Alice in Chains. Their palate ranges from heavy effects-saturated riffs to intricate odd meter acoustic melodies. They formed in 2013, and since then have relocated from Richmond and have released 5 albums. They’ve been nominated as finalists in the Hard Rock categories three years in a row in the DC area Wammie awards. With A Shrewdness of Apes, expect the musically unexpected.

Roscoe Tripp

Drawing from a mix of guitar-driven indie anthems, synth-heavy 80’s riffs, intricate song structures, and lyrics more apt to fit folk music than the hard rock and disco-like beats with which they have been fused, Roscoe Tripp’s songs leave the listener as likely to dance impulsively as they are to focus intently on the unpredictable deviations within the melodies. The DC-based band started in 2021 as a studio-only side-project for guitarist and keyboardist Greg Fine of the indie rock band You Fool!, but has grown to a five-piece group determined to bring the energy of Roscoe Tripp’s songs to live audiences. Roscoe Tripp’s debut EP, “It Always Starts with Something”, releases in January 2023.

Outerloop

“Outerloop want to kick your teeth in“ – Washington Post (October 2021)

Outerloop is a post-punk, rock band fronted by powerhouse vocalist, Taisha Estrada. Known for their high-energy live shows and angular songwriting, the band released an EP and an LP, while honing their all-out live performances for crowds in Washington D.C. area at venues from Fort Reno to Comet Ping Pong, and regionally across Maryland and Virginia. Outerloop’s submission to NPR Music’s 2022 Tiny Desk Contest was recognized as “an uptempo track that would easily entertain a music festival crowd.” (DCist) The video earned the band an in-studio interview which aired on WAMU and a spot on the first night of the Tiny Desk On the Road tour, opening for this year’s contest winner Alisa Amador as well as 2021 winner Neffy at Songbyrd Music House. The band’s debut EP, ‘EP01’ released in January of 2022 was hailed as “a genre-busting success” (Alchemical Records) and was soon followed up with their self-titled full-length LP released in June 2022: “This music has many parts that fit together in complex ways, to create a stunning musical picture.” (Prism Reviews)
