Her Roots
Her Roots
Her Roots is a monthly concert series that endeavors to feature, support and grow the female music community in the DC metro area. The early show time and low ticket price make the event ideal for young people and their families, artists and their friends. We’re excited to partner with DC Guitars Not Gun Violence, Music 4 More and Massive Art Attack to offer this unique and vital service to the DC community.
Lauren Calve Band
Lauren Calve Band
Virginia native Lauren Calve is a singer-songwriter based in Washington, D.C. Steeped in American roots music, Calve's songs are by turns anthemic and poetic as they move between rousing blues-rock, sweeping folk-driven numbers, and delicate balladry. Her multifaceted vocal style takes inspiration from such powerful female singers as Patty Griffin, Bonnie Raitt, and Emmylou Harris to which she adds the steely, haunting sounds of the slide resonator guitar. She is currently touring the east coast in support of her first release 'Between the Creek and Tracks.
The Moon and You
The Moon and You
The Moon and You is rooted in the rich music scene of Asheville, NC. Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Ryan Furstenberg, Melissa Hyman and Dulci Ellenberger have played music together for fun and profit in several configurations, and for many years. This collaboration of close friends is clearly rooted in a profound mutual respect.
Most often The Moon and You can be seen as a trio, playing cello, guitar, banjo and drums, and boasting three lead singers. With each member adding his/her own style and influences to the pot, the band simmers as a well-crafted and extremely tasty musical stew. In The Moon and You, an impossibly sassy cellist from New York, a whimsical fingerstyle guitarist from Eastern NC and a hilarious and highly trained singer from Western PA have come together to create a musical whole much greater than the sum of its parts.
Throwing Plates
Throwing Plates
Combining heartfelt singer/songwriter roots with folk-rock grit, Throwing Plates is becoming a regular act among many venues in the Washington area. Created by three gifted musicians and songwriters, the DC based group aptly incorporates fresh musical thinking with memorable melodies.

Throwing Plates was founded by James Britton, Jamie Boyd, and Doug Imhoff; the three crossed paths while performing in DC showcases. Mutually impressed by their talents, they soon began writing songs together. Over the past three years Throwing Plates has independently booked and performed over 250 shows and have received awards from the Songwriters Association of Washington and Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.

Through their energetic and interactive stage presence, the trio is accumulating a loyal following. In 2015, well-known songwriter and producer Mark Williams was impressed with Throwing Plates, leading to work on their recording debut. The self-titled album was released on July 29th, 2016 and can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and other online retailers.
Ileeana Johnson
Ileeana Johnson
Bristow’s Ileeana Johnson is an exciting new voice. She wrote her first song at age twelve, and only three years later is already turning heads at local open mics. She credits her parents’ diverse musical tastes as an early influence, and counts Ed Sheeran as an inspiration. 'Music has opened me up to a countless number of opportunities I could never have even dreamed of encountering. I've met so many incredible, talented people who some I now consider family. I hope to share my music and connect with as many people as possible who also share the same love for it.'
