Sunday November 2 rock $10 advance/ $12 at the door - 7pm show
Lamont Hiebert, the lead singer and songwriter of Ten Shekel Shirt, describes himself as an artist and an abolitionist. As an artist, he’s a gifted singer, songwriter and bandleader who evokes comparisons from Snow Patrol to Coldplay to Peter Gabriel for his richly textured music, emotive singing and thoughtful lyrics and who’s already sold 150,000 copies of his first two albums. As an abolitionist, he’s a committed crusader who interrupted a successful musical career to co-found Love146, a non-profit organization dedicated to help end child slavery and exploitation. Not content to simply write songs about the issue or put on benefit concerts, he created a way to make an actual impact. Love146 quickly gained recognition for its work, earning the MySpace Impact Award for Social Justice, and being named an “Agent of Change” by GQ magazine. Lamont’s experiences as a modern day abolitionist are at the heart of many the songs on Ten Shekel Shirt’s new album Jubilee, easily the strongest album in the band’s career. Though the album’s songs deal with weighty subject matter, Ten Shekel Shirt brings a strong message of hope throughout.
“These songs are about real life struggles, relationships, losses, bittersweet goodbyes and finally having the courage to tell your childhood sweetheart you love her,” says Aaron Morgan. “We want to invite the listener to share the emotions, victories and defeats we all experience as normal, every day people.” And with lyrics so honest and vulnerable, it’s hard not to. “There is a redemptive quality present in this record, even in the darker moments.” explains frontman Aaron Morgan. “We hope this record will be an oasis for those who were left thirsty by years of heartache.”
Seabird has cancelled this show. Ten Shekel Shirt is still playing. Come on out!

Monday November 3 rock $10 - 7:30pm show. Doors at 7pm
We're Locksley. Our first album, Don't Make Me Wait, has been compared
to the music from the 60's quite a bit, especially the Beatles, a
generous compliment by any measure and not inaccurate in our initial
aims. The sixties are definitely a jumping off point for us. In just
over a year since self-releasing our first album we've toured the UK,
Japan and the US with some great bands, including The Hives, OkGo, the
Rapture, Hanson and Rooney, to name a few. We've sold over 50,000
albums worldwide, performed on Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien in the
States and had our songs featured in movies, television and
advertisements. Everything we've accomplished so far has been as an
unsigned artist.

About Hymns:
"Roberts and the band's front man Brian Harding have known each other
since they were little kids, been playing music together almost as
long and it shows -- the two have a tight, effortless chemistry on
stage, and along with drummer Tony Kent and their newest member,
bassist Matt Shaw, they play a show that offers Southern fried good
times, start to finish." - John Norris, MTV
"If Pavement and Neil Young Took A Roadtrip to Burritoville... (Hymns)
recorded their sophomore LP (Travel In Herds) on a 60-acre ranch in
Texas, and the album's airy country rock feels appropriately spacious
and uninhibited. " - Spin Magazine

Wednesday November 5 rock/alternative 8PM Show $20
After more than 15 million records sold in its Indonesian homeland,
SLANK is breaking out with its first worldwide English language album,
Anthem For The Broken Hearted.
Slank's decidedly Western sound has a broad appeal to lovers of pop
music with a rock edge. Its lyrics, however, draw from its Indonesian
foundation, focusing on the trials and tribulations of living in a
struggling, third-world country. The album's title, in fact, is not an
ode to the lovesick, but a reference to the Indonesian people.
After achieving momentous success at home, Slank now has its eyes set
on the rest of the world. Undoubtedly, Slank will be recruiting plenty
of new fans to be Slankers as they experience their energetic live
shows and listen to their infectious album.

Thursday November 6 pop/acoustic $10 - 8pm show
"Compelling and endearing." -Entertainment Weekly
On tour to support his new album Tangerine, David Mead moves beyond
his singer-songwriter roots to create a more expansive sound than
previously explored in his work.
For Tangerine, Mead wanted to make a record that was a combination of
very high pop tempered with a sensibility thats a lot more about being
a solo artist than a singer-songwriter. Teaming up with
producer/multi-instrumentalist Brad Jones (Jill Sobule, Josh Rouse,
Butterfly Boucher), he created an eclectic pop album that features 12
original songs recorded at Alex The Great studio in Nashville. Mead
plays nearly a dozen different instruments on the record including
piano, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, vibraphone and mellotron and is
joined by Jones on bass, calliope, piano and other instruments.
The Grey Race
"I don't really like the norm – I get a kick out of things that are a
little messed up," says Jon Darling, singer, songwriter and guitarist
for The Grey Race. "Leaving the cracks and creases in, the
imperfections, is attractive to me." And who would expect anything
less from a singer who, on his New York band's eponymous debut album
(on Unfiltered Records) sings: You see it's easy without the pain/ And
twice as boring/ Mix it up/ And keep the blood flowing/ You know you
can." Jon says of his collaboration with bassist Jeff Hill and drummer
Ethan Eubanks, the pair he credits with designing The Grey Race's
sonic architecture: "We've got this sweet-and-sour thing going on. My
stuff is pretty dark and moody, but Ethan and Jeff's production
brought a completely new dimension to it."
"The standard format of songwriting doesn't appeal to me," Jon opines.
"I'd rather just try to let something flow freely from my mind into
the song." In fact, The Grey Race has not been run on a straight line;
it twists and turns through unexpected tributaries. It is alternately
muscular and delicate, melancholy and amused, pop and something
decidedly uncharted. "I think this sound is quite different from a lot
of stuff that's happening in music now," Jon ventures. "I couldn't
begin to say what bandwagon it would jump on. But I find that
interesting – I think that's exactly why people should give it a
listen."

"Although the lone man with acoustic guitar is nothing new,
Fitzsimmons somehow transcends the cliche. His restrained vocal
delivery, the perfect finger picking, melodies, memorable lyrics, and
the minimal electronic bleeps/bumps/hisses
hinting at a rhythm section form something entirely unique." -

One night while walking through the woods, Michael Flynn and Josh
Kaler pulled a sword from a stone and the curtains of heaven opened up
and they simultaneously realized their musical destiny as Slow Runner
involved casio, loud drums, and short pop songs about girls.
Slow Runner has toured with folks like Josh Ritter, Say Anything,

shows like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill. With their newest
records, 'Shiv!' and 'Mermaids', Slow Runner takes their sound to a
new level with Flynn's deepest songwriting yet and enough musical
tricks and turns to make Brian Wilson blush. It's loud and ornery, but
sophisticated and elegant too; like a brilliant 14-year-old debutante

Taking their name from one the toughest roads that runs through their

the realm of funk and arena rock. In 2006 they released their first
self-titled album, which was featured in the movie "The Condemned"
staring Stone Cold Steve Austin. Increased radio airplay later that
year also led Egypt Central to earn slots on the Ozzfest and Family

PAPER ROUTE (as told by Chad Howat) I was tired. There was just this
lingering sense of exhaustion in the summer of 2004... When I couldn't
sleep, I'd... make music all night. Some bands have LSD, others have
cocaine, & our drug of choice seemed to be insomnia. I programmed,
played bass, synths & even snuck into an undisclosed location
masquerading as a music student to record piano. JT Daly, a close
friend & old band mate, started coming over to sing, sample, & play
toy keyboards... After a month or so went by, Andy Smith, another
close friend & ex-band mate... started... contributing vocals, guitar,
harmonica, & some synths. A band had naturally formed between the
three of us & we were making music together, once again.

Recommended for fans of Park, Armor For Sleep, and The Early November.
LOVE&REVERIE are from Richmond, Virginia, a state capitol that bands
like GWAR, Lamb of God, Strike Anywhere and Down to Nothing call home.
With most of the city's major venues located in tough-guy
neighborhoods and the hardcore scene ruling the territory, this
five-piece's unique meld of pop-rock and ambient tones are - how shall
we say this - the odd band out? But who's to say this is a bad thing?
In Richmond, where lush atmospheric soundscapes take the backseat to
the brazen, fast and heavy, Love&Reverie were given a blank slate.
They weren't limited by local standards or trends. The musical freedom
left room for discovery and innovation, and it still does.

Thursday November 13 rock $10 - 8:30pm show
For a band that has toured over forty states and thirteen countries you would think that their discography would be as numerous as their tour stops. However, Lloyd Dobler Effect is celebrating their much-anticipated self-titled studio debut. Phil Kominski, lead vocalist for the group, explains that "the plan was to have had this album out way back in 2004. We recorded several versions of songs that are on the new album, but our constant touring schedule and lack of satisfaction with the previously recorded efforts hindered us from releasing this album any sooner. Instead, we released two live albums as place-fillers until this new record was ready."
Drawing from the diverse Washington, D.C. music scene, Lloyd Dobler Effect fuses rock, percussive rhythms and vocal harmonies to create an intricate and fresh sound. LDE's multi-layered and upbeat music showcases their universal appeal to both mainstream modern rock lovers and culturally diverse audiences. Chris Bruno, the group's guitarist, says that "our music seems to relate to a broad spectrum of ages and races. I think that people who appreciate good song structure, well thought-out lyrics and passionate live performances appreciate our sound, and so in this way, our music crosses any sort of barriers pertaining to age, ethnicity and gender."

Friday November 14 Americana $12 advance/ $15 at the door - 7:30pm early show
Jim White is a highly original voice in the immense Southern gothic
tradition. When broken humanity aches for grace, music like his may
give you a shot at redemption.
Raised in Pensacola, Florida, a town crushed between the church and
heroin, Jim's songs reach deep into the underbelly of the South. One
time Pentacostal, fashion model, New York taxi driver, drifter,
pro-surfer, photographer, film-maker, his music is the conduit for all
the stories he collected along the way. His previous albums
'Wrong-Eyed Jesus' [1997], 'No Such Place' [2001] and 'Drill a Hole in
That Substrate…' [2004] were acclaimed as masterpieces of 'outer space
alt.country' and established Jim as a phenomenal maverick talent. Jim
also starred in the BBC4 film 'Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus', an
award-winning road-movie exploring Southern culture through its music
and stories. Now living in an old farmhouse in the backwoods of
Georgia, Jim White may have finally reached a place called home, but
his other search, for what he calls 'the gold tooth in God's crooked
smile' continues in this new set of backyard tales. Transnormal
Skiperoo, his most recent release, was produced by Joe Pernice and
Michael Deming, recorded with the band Ollabelle, and also features
tracks with Tucker Martine and Laura Veirs, local Georgia legend Don
Chambers & Goat, bluegrass duo Jeff & Vida and percussionist Mauro
Refosco.

Saturday November 15 music for kids and families $10 - 2pm matinee
"A Billy Jonas performance is an explosion of energy. In singalongs, bangalongs, whisperalongs, as well as improvised songs, his primary instrument is the audience. Everyone becomes part of a performance that reaches out and... touches even the most hardened of hearts." - Fayetteville Morning News
Concerts begin with a simple "tuning" of the audience; from there a whimsical trajectory carries listeners through stories of life, love, and triumph over 'Murphy's Law.' Jonas' original pieces are played on fanciful "industrial re-percussion" instruments made from found objects. He sings in a clear tenor voice; his guitar work is adventurous, alternately percussive and lyrical.
Billy Jonas' performances will inspire, inform, and enlighten. His work is born out of respect and reverence, and seeks to honor the creative energy in everyone.

Grammer is currently touring in support of FLOWER OF AVALON (Signature Sounds 2005), her much anticipated solo debut. In January 2006, that album showed up on "Best of" lists and listener polls around the country, and was the #1 most-played album on folk radio across the United States for 2005. We call this a triumph -- a testament to the enduring appeal of Carter's songwriting, and a sign of good things to come for Grammer as she continues on her solo career.
Flower of Avalon includes nine previously-unreleased songs by the late Dave Carter and one traditional tune, re-worked by Oregon professor Wm. Jolliff. Multi-tasking masterfully as co-producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, Grammer digs deep into the spirit of Carter's poetic verses and haunting melodies to color each song with textures and flourishes that blur the boundaries of categorization. Paired with Grammer’s voice -- emotive, warm and versatile -- the songs on Flower of Avalon are nothing less than visionary. Mary Chapin Carpenter sings harmony on three cuts and wrote the liner notes for the record. Carpenter writes, “Tracy’s continuing quest to make sure that the world remembers Dave Carter marks a new beginning of artistry for her. We are lucky that she is so brave, generous and gifted.” Flower of Avalon is produced by Grammer and John Jennings (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls).
Tracy Grammer tours internationally with songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jim Henry (Deb Talan, Mark Erelli, The Burns Sisters). With acoustic and electric guitars, beautifully matched voices, dobro, mandolin and violin, this duo shares original songs, instrumentals, and pays homage to Carter and other stellar writers while charting a brand new course for themselves in the musical landscape. Grammer says, "I’ll keep on singing, and I’ll keep on telling my story, however that evolves. Working with Dave Carter was the first step on what I hope is going to be a long and fruitful road for me: the endless quest for authenticity through music.”

Thursday November 27 hip-hop $10 - 9pm show. Doors open at 8:30pm
The current state of Hip Hop is one of confusion. In a land where
rappers and emcees refute the other's credibility, one artist has the
knowledge to bridge the gap between the two. Bo Knows The Difference.
In this modern era of confusion, most rappers are made up of
blueprints comprised primarily of the following recipe: 60% image, 30%
street credibility, and only 10% talent. While at the same time,
underground emcees vow to keep it real but deep down inside long for
their big break into the limelight. Bo Knows His Position. Infinitely
wise beyond his twenty years, Bo Jankans sees beyond the façade of
iced-out chains or backpacks and quite simply stays true to self. His
focus lies with the rhyme, not the look - with the message, not the
punch line. A student of the art form since a pre-teen, his days are
filled with translating his everyday experiences as an American youth
into compositions full of weaving hooks and catchy choruses. These
experiences were the nucleus of his debut effort "Up Until Now"
released in 2007 which features production from the who's who of
producers in the mid-Atlantic area. Bo Knows The Music. Whether its
attacking a mic booth in front of seasoned veterans or sharing the
stage with proven heavy hitters, Bo shines. His presence over a
microphone and in person is undeniable. Quite simply stated - when it
comes to Hip Hop, Bo Knows.

done quite a bit of side work, writing and recording with other

Saturday November 29 Celtic rock $15 - 8pm show
Enter The Haggis’ live show is a musical feast — viscerally dynamic, emotionally uplifting and intellectually stimulating. The band’s oeuvre darts effortlessly from the trad strains of, say, The Chieftains and The Pogues to the frenetic pop of early Elvis Costello and even to the Latin-tinged spirit of the Buena Vista Social Club and beyond. Complete with Trevor Lewington’s deft guitar playing, the reeling of Brian Buchanan’s flawless fiddle, the diverse rhythmic machinations of bassist Mark Abraham and drummer James Campbell, and Craig Downie’s transporting pipes, not to mention the near-perfect vocal harmonies. The group’s undeniable power is documented in Live at Lanigan’s Ball, a film chronicling an Enter The Haggis performance at Plattsburgh, New York’s Hartman Theatre in December of 2003, originally taped for a PBS special which continues to air around the country, and now available on DVD.

Never heard of a "songwriters circle"?
