Tuesday July 1 rock $10 - 6:30pm

Alley Trip + No Compromise + So Called Heist + Just Like Always

Genuine to the words "rock 'n rol." Raised on groups that define the fundamentals of rock, (Guns 'n Roses, Alice 'n Chains, Metallica, etc.) the members of Alley Trip had a basis in music before they even picked up instruments. Through hard work, exposure to each others' musical influences, and a chemistry that can only be found in true teamwork, Alley Trip has become a rock band for the modern day. Soaring, soulful vocals, distorted guitars, and a rhythm section of tight low ends and crashing cymbals all define Alley Trip's "modern grunge" sound.

"Since I had NoCo's track "So Hot" buzzing in my brain for a week, I had to go catch me a NoCo show and they did not disappoint!!! Great energy and enthusiasm and GREAT live! Its bands like No Compromise that makes me appreciate hosting a local music feature like Local Lix..." -Whitney, DC101 Radio Personality

Christopher Gutierrez

Christopher Gutierrez is a nontraditional, thought provoking speaker who conveys a message of self-empowerment through his entertaining stories of life experiences.

Though many are just discovering his work, the Chicago native has been penning narratives for 12 years in his self-published fanzine, DeadxStop. In 2003, he began posting memoirs and opinions on his blog, "Askheychris." His unique voice, brutal honesty, sharp wit and endearing storytelling ability garnered instant readership. Continuous word of mouth expanded the blog to over 3,500 "friends" and countless unique anonymous visitors, making it one of the most widely read blogs on the popular site Livejournal.com.

Two years later, at the prompting (and petitioning) of readers, he released his first book, a collection of memoirs and journal entries entitled On the Upswing of Life, Love and Regret. On the strength of a small but loyal fan base, the first pressing of 1100 sold out within six months.

November 2006 saw the release of his first spoken word CD, The Dirt of an Electric Boy, and in early 2007came Bulletproof Hearts: A Guide to a Deliberate Life, a ‘minibook’ of self-penned words of wisdom and a precursor to the June 2007 release of his second book, A Life Deliberate.

To date, Gutierrez has toured the U.S., Canada and the U.K. twice, and embarks on his third U.S./Canadian tour this summer.

Joy Lippard

+ Meredith Morris

It takes some people nearly a lifetime to realize their gifts and discover how to use them. Then there are those rare individuals who know very early in life where God is leading. As a young artist who fast tracked her high school diploma and is graduating a year early to devote full-time to her music, it’s obvious Joy Lippard knows her calling and is embracing it with fearless abandon. “I think that God has a gift for each of us and we should use it,” says Lippard. “I know that my songwriting ability and musical talents are from the Lord. I have a really determined personality, and whatever I’m doing, I want to do it to the best of my ability.” Lippard has not only been gifted with an incredibly distinctive voice and intuitive songwriting skills that suggest a much older writer, she also possesses an inner drive and boundless energy that is making her one of the most-talked about new artists in Christian music.

Jon McLaughlin

with Special Guest George Simon Stanford

Jon McLaughlin's music stays with you long after he walks off stage. Clearly, his skill as a performer can only be described as “unique”. His combination of song and conversation makes even a large audience seem intimate.

As a young pianist in Anderson, Indiana, Jon spent hours transforming words into lyrics and notes into melodies. After experiencing an accident where both his wrists were shattered, playing the piano took a backseat in his life. It was not until his senior year of high school when he sat down and rediscovered his passion for his art form.

Jon's songwriting finally began to take authentic shape when he enrolled in Anderson University's School of Music. There he spent countless hours developing the foundations for his debut album. With his classically trained ear and influences from Ben Folds and Billy Joel, Jon McLaughlin has crafted his unique piano-driven rock style to create a sound that has delighted audiences and coated the states with his sound.

Jenny Owen Youngs

+ Laura Burhenn (of Georgie James) + Justin Trawick

Jenny Owen Youngs is a feisty, hyper-sensitive, disease-free singer/songwriter/former girl scout who wants to be your friend. claiming influences from Beck to Jesus Christ Superstar to Britney Spears, her music is an echo of Erin Mckeown hopping into Jeff Buckley's Pontiac, cruising backwoods Alabama red dirt roads and singing along to The Sundays and Nick Drake. Her songs straddle the heart-wrenching and the tongue-in-cheek and say giddyup.

Friday July 18 Americana/folk/jazz $12 - 7pm early show

Robinella + Hoots and Hellmouth

RobinElla makes beguiling music that has no name. The acclaimed singer-songwriter has had folks struggling with descriptions as long as she has been making music. She has slipped in and out of genres ranging from bluegrass to jazz, always dodging labels. Her new CD Solace for the Lonely is no exception.

The tragic "Whippin' Wind" could pass for a mountain folk tune. "Press On" is a lovely spiritual, while "Solace for the Lonely" adds a hot jazz fiddle to its spiritual text. "All I've Given" and "Waiting" could be pages from Billie Holiday's songbook. "Down the Mountain" and "Come Back My Way" are melodic country tunes. "Little Boy" has a funky groove, while "Teardrops" is a slow heartbreaker. "Break it Down" and "I Fall in Love as Much as I Can" are jazzy tracks, and RobinElla's version of the Melanie classic "Brand New Key" is pure pop pleasure.

"One thing I can say about my music is that I write all different types of songs," says RobinElla. "It's not like I'm stuck in one mode or anything. And our band was like this from the beginning."

The Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars

The Paul Green School of Rock Music is the original performance based, interactive music school, founded in Philadelphia, PA (in 1998) and now operating in 29 locations across the United States. The school proceeds from the belief that the best way to learn to do almost anything is by doing it, and the school feels that this is particularly true about music. Therefore, from the moment a student joins a School of Rock, he or she is playing music; loud, with other musicians on genuine equipment. Before long students are playing shows. These are not your old fashioned "wait through fifty other kids mangling their songs until your child's turn arrives" recitals, but real rock concerts at real rock venues before real rock audiences complete with lightshows, stagecraft and the occasional pyro.

The School of Rock All Stars represent the very best of what the Paul Green School of Rock is all about. Comprised of the best, brightest, and hardest working students from our various branches, the All-Stars have but one mission: TOTAL ROCK DESTRUCTION

My Favorite Highway CD Release Show

+ Steve Moakler

After two years of college Dave Cook was feeling uninspired. He dropped the books and headed home to Fairfax, Virginia to form My Favorite Highway with his cousin, Will Cook, in January 2005. The band spent six months writing their first songs and went into the studio to record a three song EP with producer Paul Barber in the Summer of 2005. “We wrote a few songs and it just so happened that everyone seemed to love them. We didn't know what to expect, it was like a fortunate accident,” Dave says. With their unique, polished sound and their “boys next-door” image, My Favorite Highway quickly captured the heart of their local scene with designs to do the same throughout the rest of the country.

The band stepped back into studio in the Summer of 2006 to cut five new tracks with Barber. They released the five track EP, “Anywhere But Here”, in November 2006. The new EP was received extremely well, selling 3,000+ CDs, and 41,000+ digital singles in 2007. After a few line-up changes the band rounded out to a four-piece. The quartet - Cook, his cousin and bassist Will Cook, drummer Bobby Morgenthaler and guitarist Pat Jenkins - hit the road in May 2007 for their first East Coast tour. The band spent the Fall of 2007 writing for their full-length debut; and now, with a handful of great songs, they are eager to record their new record, hit the road and see what lies ahead.

Eric Weinberg

Eric Weinberg sings the blues … and the reds and the greens and every other color of the rainbow. This versatile singer/songwriter has performed across the country and across the ocean. Every time he steps behind a microphone Eric Weinberg offers up music and lyrics that touch the mind and embed in the heart. Eric's new CD Get Back Up Again is an eclectic blend of adult-contemporary tunes with strong rock, blues, and country influences. It's part-autobiography, part absurdity. Songs like Sun's Gonna Shine and the title cut, Get back Up Again recall feelings of uncertainty and hope as Eric struggled to overcome a long and serious illness. Back Seat Becky introduces us to a woman with a gift for grins and sins. And the award-winning Military Road is a powerful, haunting story of loss.

Eric has won many prestigious song-writing awards. In addition he has composed and arranged soundtracks for documentaries, videos and children's programs. Eric also has written musical satire for National Public Radio's Morning Edition.
