On Gift Horse, their second album for Vanguard and fifth studio effort overall, Stephen Kellogg and his bandmates bring the rich legacy of American rock & roll into the present tense. This is thrilling music, muscular, immediate and life-embracing, steeped in tradition but addressing the present moment boldly and eloquently. For the past years, Kellogg & the Sixers have toured non-stop, some years clocking in close to 300 shows. They've shared the stage with such notable and diverse artists as Guster, James Brown, Jason Mraz, Kathleen Edwards, Carbon Leaf, Mike Doughty, Josh Ritter, George Thorogood and Hanson.
There's nothing hidden or tentative about Kellogg's music or the values he stands for. If you've been itching to crank up some bracing, timeless rock & roll that speaks to these values loudly and proudly, then Gift Horse is exactly what you've been waiting for.

Drawing on influences from classic soul to modern alternative, Cartoon Johnny performs a variety of audience favorites and original music, bringing audiences to their feet, show after show. They've taken traditional a cappella and turned it inside out, blending unusual vocal techniques and special effects to produce a sound many mistake for a full instrumental rock band, but it's all vocal.
Cartoon Johnny was named the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes champion in 2005, and took 1st runner-up as well as Best Arrangement honors at the 2008 competition. They've played up and down the East coast at events large and small, and were honored to perform with Marvin Hamlisch and the National Symphony Orchestra Pops at the Kennedy Center's "Happy Holidays!" concerts in 2007. They were awarded with a coveted WAMMIE for DC's Best A Cappella Recording for Power Up. Cartoon Johnny took New York City by storm and won First Place and Audience Favorite at the New York Harmony Sweepstakes. Harmony, rhythm, and soul, with just a touch of mischief and a whole lot of fun -- that's Cartoon Johnny.

- "Romeo's Tune"
Singer-songwriter Steve Forbert had his first major hit in 1979 when he was only 25 years old, shortly after moving to New York City from his hometown of Meridian, Miss where he had been working as a truck driver. Thirty-plus years later, he's still writing acclaimed songs and has released 14 studio albums, including a Grammy-nominated tribute to another Mississippi legend, Jimmie Rodgers. He performs around the world and even finds time to pursue his latest artistic adventure, this time in photography: an exhibit of his cell phone photographs recently opened at a Nashville art gallery.
From those humble beginnings Steve eventually moved to New York City to focus on his music, and found that his artful mixture of introspective pop, rock, folk, country and soul could not be ignored by the music industry. In 1978, just months after arriving in the big city, Forbert signed his first record deal with CBS Records. His debut album, Alive On Arrival, showcased his distinctive musicality and became one of the year's most acclaimed albums. After being compared to folk-based stars like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, Forbert still managed to forge his own, more modern path with his hit sophomore record Jackrabbit Slim. The highlight of the album was the #11 Billboard hit "Romeo's Tune:" an upbeat song with timeless lyrics sweetened by a poetic sensibility, which has since become Steve's signature style. His brash-yet-sensitive take on songwriting and his unaffected delivery propelled the album up the charts, leading to sold-out shows and a feature in Rolling Stone magazine and even a high profile cameo a Cyndi Lauper's tux-wearing, flower-toting boyfriend at the end of the "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" video from 1983.
Steve was inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame in 2006, and "Romeo's Tune" was covered by Keith Urban in 2007. Forbert is one of the few artists who can mesmerize a crowd with nothing but a distinctive voice, an acoustic guitar and his trusty harmonica slung around his neck, letting the purity of his music stand on its own. As one reviewer recently remarked, "Forbert is a hardcore troubadour who, artistically speaking, continues to fight the good fight by releasing one excellent album after another and working his ass off show after show to earn every single fan's loyalty."

Guitarist Charlie Hunter is a musician on a journey. Never to be satisfied with a ravishingly successful recording career spanning 17 albums, he has continued to explore his own musical tastes, following the currents of his musical self. Continuing the evolution of his style and sound, Public Domain is Charlie Hunter's solo take on 11 bona fide classic tunes that have been around long enough for their copyrights, but not their charms, to have expired. His first solo album in 10 years, the material chosen for Public Domain, all of it close to Hunter's heart, is woven into the fabric of our collective cultural history.
Since the debut of Charlie Hunter Trio in '93, Hunter has recorded 17 albums and worked with Miles Perkins, Les Claypool, John Ellis, Bobby Previte, Leon Parker, Mos Def, Norah Jones, Adam Cruz, and John Mayer to name just a few.

Never Shout Never has been reborn. While the moniker has long referred to 20-year-old Christofer Drew, it is now the name of a full band with the messy-haired singer-songwriter at its helm - and the change couldn't have come at a better time." With six EPs and two albums under his belt, over 2.5 million Facebook fans, nearly 50 million MySpace profile views and over 157 million song plays, it's clear that Drew has achieved breakthrough success since his first upload.
In an almost therapeutic way, Drew has woven his experiences into Time Travel, the first album recorded and produced by Never Shout Never, which now includes Drew, Caleb Denison (guitar/drums/percussion), Taylor MacFee (bass) and Hayden Kaiser (guitar, percussion). The band members, who each contributed backing vocals on the full-length, holed up in Springfield, MO, just one hour outside of their hometown of Joplin, and dedicated themselves to making Never Shout Never's most impressive album to date. Since the age of 16, audiences have watched him grow from a one-man show to a far-reaching phenomenon.
As for the future, Never Should Never simply want to continue making records, playing live shows, experimenting with sound and "hopefully let people know that we're here to have fun with music, not just to make money." Drew adds. Christofer Drew and Never Shout Never continue to help raise money for their hometown of Joplin, MO which was devastated by tornados in late May. Christofer put together a campaign with the United Way in hopes to raise $1 million for Joplin. Text "JOMO" to 50555 to donate $10 to the immediate and long-term relief of Joplin, MO and watch the video of the destruction Chris put together himself, which also contains a clip of "Time Travel."

An evening of jaw-dropping guitarists from the boundary-expanding label Candyrat Records.
Trevor's Candyrat Records debut album "Entelechy" explores new possibilities for the guitar through the use of a custom chromatic kalimba (African finger piano) that Trevor designed with help from various builders. The kalimba mounts on the surface of the guitar, allowing the steel tines and steel strings to resonate through the guitar body. The album focuses on solid melodic ideas, interspersed with the harmonies and rhythms of the kalimba, bringing a fresh sound to the acoustic guitar.

The music of Italian guitarist Pino Forastiere comes from a solid classical, contemporary and rock background, and it's hard to be defined. He "employes a dazzling blend of slapping, tapping, strumming, altered tunings and harmonics, combined with classical phrasing and a focus on distinct and addictive melodies" (Anil Prasad, Guitar Player).

Born and raised in the Australian outback, Owen Van Larkins' love of the bush, earth, wind and fire are all tangible in his music. If music and melody are the language that tells his story, then his hands are the spellbinder who's panegyric delivers in a voice that is clear, warm precise, and reaches to one's core... a tail that is certainly worth the telling.

With ten critically acclaimed albums, VANCE GILBERT continues to refine his unlikely union of humor, virtuosity, and the unexpected. Whether with classic, original songwriting or ageless interpretations of covers, his is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and contagious, unbridled joy. Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking 'em dead at open mikes. The word spread of this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer to New York; Shawn Colvin invited Vance Gilbert to be a special guest on her Fat City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm.
Gilbert's three albums for the Rounder/Philo label - EDGEWISE (1994), FUGITIVES (1995), and the celebrated, arrestingly sparse SHAKING OFF GRAVITY (1998) - are all essential additions to the American singer-songwriter collection. With guests as varied as Tuck and Patti, Jonatha Brooke, Patty Larkin, Vinx, and Jane Siberry, all three albums found significant niches on NAC (New Adult Contemporary) and Non-Commercial A3 (Adult Album Alternative) radio. These discs were followed by the self-released SOMERVILLE LIVE (2000), his live recording lionized by the Boston Globe as the disc "young songwriters should study the way law students cram for bar exams," and ONE THRU FOURTEEN (2002), a stylistically varied offering that New York's Town and Village calls "lively, eclectic, electrifying and transcending."
Follow that with SIDE OF THE ROAD (2003), a duo album with Ellis Paul, lauded as "haunting, artful, and lovely" by Boston Magazine and nominated for a 2004 Boston Music Award. UNFAMILIAR MOON (2005) successfully follows. "The songwriter's most compelling work; literate, heartfelt, rippling...emotionally resonant songs" says the Boston Globe, placing the album in its' Top 10 CDs of the year (#4). Then came a year and a half as support for George Carlin, and exciting chapter in Gilbert's varied and successful performance history, leading up to the creation and recording of UP ON ROCKFIELD, a tour de force of borrowed styles showcasing classic Vance Gilbert original songwriting at its most timeless, compelling best. Gilbert unflinchingly renders blame and absolution, trapped hearts and free-riders, class and station, uncertainty and resolution, the spiritual and the visceral, the forever and the now. His is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and unbridled joy. No great surprise to the learned acoustic listener. This is Vance Gilbert, after all...

In 2011, an eponymous, self-recorded EP led to a self-booked tour, and before long The Lumineers started attracting devout fans, first across the Western US, then back in their old East Coast stamp- ing grounds. Young, old and in-between, they're drawn by songs like "Ho Hey" and "Stubborn Love," Americana-inflected barnburners in the vein of the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons. They're drawn by songs like "Slow it Down" and "Dead Sea," slow, sultry ballads that suggest the raw revelations of Jeff Buckley and Ryan Adams. They're drawn by the live Lumineers experience-a coming-together in musical solidarity against isolation, adversity, and despair. The roots revival of the last few yeas has primed listeners for a new generation of rustic, heart-on-the- sleeve music-the kind that nods to tradition while setting off into uncharted territory. The Lumineers walk that line with an unerring gift for timeless melodies and soul-stirring lyrics. It will all be on display soon, on the band's first full-length album, due in March. Born out of sorrow, powered by passion, ripened by hard work, The Lumineers have found their sound when the world needs it most.
‘The Family' began creating music together in Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall of 2007. What began as late night talks about life and dreams gradually flowed into eccentric and beautiful music that has led to numerous tours, including adventures to CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo, three EP releases and friendships across the country. The music is emotive, and evokes raw honesty and vulnerability, whilst capturing your attention through its unmistakable power and presence. The Kopeckys followed up SXSW with a mammoth CMJ 2010, where they won over NPR‘s own Bob Boilen and were invited to play at the official Paste Magazine showcase before becoming the darlings of ‘Store-Cute' and online retailer, Fred Flare. And in other big 2011 news, the band signed on with one of the most respected companies in their field, Red Light Management. This relationship is sure to help the Kopecky Family Band continue in their pursuits to make great music for their fans and themselves. Look out for the debut full length record early in 2012.

Brothers Geoff and Jamey Ice, Josh Jenkins, Joshua Wilkerson and Denton Hunker joined their lives together into one singular dream. The dream of creating music. They recorded their first EP in the basement of their church, a CD that sold out its first pressing in just a few months. They've packed houses across the Country, and have toured with the likes of Bon Jovi, Collective Soul, Blue October, Hanson, Sister Hazel, Bowling for Soup, Simple Plan and many other bands already established in the music world.
They were voted in the Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards for Best New Band of 2003 and the Best Live Band in 2004, and swept the awards in 2006 winning "Artist of the Year," "Song of the Year," and "Album of the Year." The band recorded, promoted, and toured 2 records on a national scale independently, "The Beauty of Letting Go" (2005) and "The Way Back Home" EP (2007) and in October of 2007 the band signed a five album major label recording contract with Capitol Music Group. In 2009 and 2010, GRO saw tastes of much sought after success: 2 Top 40 radio singles, songs on over 20 TV shows ("So You Think You Can Dance", "The Hills", "The Young & Restless"), 2 music videos on MTV and VH1, tours with American Idol winners David Cook & Kris Allen, Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Train, Lifehouse, and many others. GRO's Original Song "Rise Up" was featured on the AT&T Team USA 2010 Winter Olympics Soundtrack alongside Mariah Carey, 3 Doors Down, Train, Rascal Flatts.
The band is anything but green. They have lived the life, and on stage or in the studio, this fact is obvious. Smooth, polished and professional, their musicianship and stage presence belies their youth. They look like what they are: rock stars. But that's where the similarity ends. Positive in the face of all the adversity rock and roll can throw at them, the joy they have with each other, and with their music, shines in their faces. They walk their own walk, and they walk it proudly. They are making their own rules, taking their own place in time, making their own mark on the world.
Pacific Coast Eyes is an album Graham Colton is not only proud to share with his fans, but also a collection of songs that will stand the test of time. It is most evident at live shows, where Colton's charisma shines through, providing another avenue for Graham to express his art though his live performances, where packed standing room shows are the norm. Graham's time in the public eye hasn't diminished his passion for what he does, and has only proven that he is a career artist who continues to grow musically with each new release. Pacific Coast Eyes Vol. 2 features all of the material from Colton's acclaimed sophomore LP Pacific Coast Eyes as well as alternate versions of the title track, "1981" and "Everything You Are."
Critical praise for Pacific Coast Eyes: "Graham's new album Pacific Coast Eyes has so many memorable songs, it's been impossible to not have one in my head since my first listen, which was weeks ago. The songwriting, performances and production are so addictive that I'm not willing to give Pacific Coast Eyes up for quite a while." - Michael Ragogna, Huffington Post

Lovedrug first drew national attention with the highly acclaimed Pretend You're Alive lp in 2004, the fastest selling debut in (then label) The Militia Group's history. The follow-up Everything Starts Where It Ends was also well received, selling 30k albums in several months on the back of Japanese and North American touring in 2007, and gaining traction at radio & MTV for Ghost By Your Side and Happy Apple Poison.
Though release of The Sucker Punch Show coincided with the financial collapse of the Militia Group in North America, the album garnered favorable attention upon release in Europe in June 2009, landing at #6 on the coveted Visions summer chart, and gaining broad radio play for the single Only One around club dates and festival appearances with Nine Inch Nails, Silversun Pickups, and others.
Following the European summer tour, Lovedrug committed to writing for all of 2010, pausing only to play SXSW and two headlining runs to test-drive the new material, releasing the fan-only EP-PART I+II+III trilogy along the way. In November, the band announced the I AM LOVEDRUG campaign in partnership with PledgeMusic to fund album #4 and, after reaching their goal over the holiday, Spring 2011 saw the band utilize producer Paul Moak's Nashville studio to track the entire new album live to 2" tape. Split-single Pink Champagne/Dinosaur debuted in Fall 2011, offering the first taste of the full-length titled Wild Blood, out March 6, 2012.
The Last Royals, a duo of writer/singer/producer Eric James and drummer Mason Ingram, are nascent, having only recently emerged from a joint project that brought the two musicians together in Spring 2010. The connection urged a new chapter in Eric's career as a musician, evolving him from a solo artist who played under the moniker The Early Hours to one-half of a self-proclaimed pop band. The Last Royals collect the discarded remnants of a day in the city and glue them back together to reveal a new picture, making music from the broken pieces. The songs are necessary responses to the difficulties life presents. The sound of the music is hopeful and bright, but the juxtaposition of words and sounds evoke a candid depth that accurately echoes our lives. In the end the conflation of all the pieces harkens back to the moment of its creation. The most beautiful moment of any song is the moment it was written and it's that instant that lingers in each note of The Last Royals' music.

Genre titles such as "Pop", "Folk" and "Alternative" are meant to give a listener an idea of what to expect and how to group music together. But, for the musical collective, Gungor it is not that simple. Multiple Grammy® nominations, magazine covers and even a few "Album of the Year" declarations for 2010's Beautiful Things, proves that listeners are longing for excellent and authentic music, whether it fits the norm or not.
For their third major release, Gungor has composed a concept album that celebrates the beauty of life even in the midst of darkness and pain. Starting with a startling musical imagining of the creation of the universe and traversing subjects like the "fall of man" and the imperfection of our religious systems, this album leads the listener through a roller coaster of emotion that eventually leads us back to wonder and thankfulness to this beautiful gift of life. From sweeping string lines and soaring falsetto vocal melodies to distorted flute riffs and five part dissonant harmonies, this album explores quite a wide emotional and musical gamut.
Ghosts Upon The Earth, the new release from GRAMMY® nominated Gungor, was produced by the band's namesake, Michael Gungor. This follow-up to the critically acclaimed Beautiful Things was composed as a full narative. The new album was released September 20, 2011 and debuted at #43 on the Billboard Top 200.

Love146 is a non-profit organization that works towards the abolition of child sex slavery and exploitation through prevention and aftercare. In 2002, the co-founders of Love146 traveled to Southeast Asia to determine how they could serve in the fight against child sex trafficking. While on their trip, several co-founders were taken undercover with investigators to a brothel, where they witnessed children being sold for sex. The names of these children were replaced with numbers and their eyes lacked a spark of life. However, one girl, #146, still had the willingness to fight left in her eyes. The hope and life that #146 had preserved in her eyes sparked Love146's abolition movement, which protects children across Asia, the United States, and Europe.Love Protects. Love Defends. TheRuinCity is a five-piece pop rock band from the Washington DC area. TheRuinCity prides themselves in creating music with a unique upbeat style and sound, influenced by bands such as Augustana, Copeland, Switchfoot and The Fray.TheRuinCity debuted with their critically acclaimed self-titled EP on September 4th, 2011, and quickly caught the attention of the local music scene. Their single, "What I Mean To You", has been selected to play on all Delta airlines flights this spring. The band is determined to use their music for a purpose greater than themselves, and this vision led them to donate all of the proceeds from their EP to a non-profit organization called Love 146 to help prevent child trafficking, and help rehabilitate survivors. It would be hard to find a character in rock and roll who has played the part better than Tommy Stinson. From his beginnings as bassist of the legendary Replacements to his current tenure with Guns N' Roses and Soul Asylum, Tommy has always done things his own way and has lived to tell the tale. The story begins with seminal Minneapolis band The Replacements. Tommy started the group with his big brother Bob at the tender age of 13. Only 24 when the band broke up, Tommy set off on his own and formed the Faces-flavored group Bash & Pop. In 1993, Bash & Pop released the album Friday Night Is Killing Me on Warner Bros. His next group, the power-pop quartet Perfect, released a highly acclaimed EP and created a big buzz on the L.A. music scene. It was eventually released in 2004, under the name Once, Twice, Three Times a Maybe.
Tommy's life took yet another interesting turn in 1998, when Axl Rose asked him to be the new bassist in Guns N' Roses. Since then, he has writing, recording, and touring the world with them. His fingerprints are all over the Chinese Democracy album and his signature presence on stage adds a unique dimension to this notoriously great live band. There are no plans of slowing down in the future for our fearless friend.
In 2004, Stinson released his first solo album Village Gorilla Head on Sanctuary Records. It was well received by the music press and fans alike. He subsequently toured behind the album backed by his friends The Figgs and Alien Crime Syndicate as his backing bands. In 2005, Tommy was asked to fill in on bass for Soul Asylum (with his high school pal Dave Pirner) after bassist and founding member Karl Mueller succumbed to cancer. The following year he helped finish recording The Silver Lining album with them. He still writes, records, and plays shows with the band whenever he can, and relishes playing with his old friends.
In August 2011, Tommy will release a new solo effort entitled One Man Mutiny on his own Done To Death Music and as well as continue to tour with Guns N' Roses and Soul Asylum.

Marcus Foster is a British unsigned musician, categorizing himself as Folk / Blues / Alternative. Some of his musical influences include Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, The Doors, Jeff Buckley, Johnny Flynn, Van Morrison, and the list goes on. Best known for co-writing the song "Let Me Sign" performed by Robert Pattinson on the Twilight Soundtrack.
SAM BRADLEY meshes soul, folk and rock on his new EP ZUNI. Many dates on the upcoming tour have sold out several weeks in advance, including shows in New York, Nashville and Boston. Bradley's distinct knack for writing an unforgettable song can be found throughout the EP which features five new songs and remastered versions of tracks "Passport," "It Begins" and "Sea Blue," which were originally found of Bradley's 2009 self-titled debut EP. An exclusive print version of the eight-song EP will also be available at tour stops. His song "Too Far Gone" was included in the first Twilight film as a gentle compliment to the movie's dinner scene. Co-written by the film's lead actor Robert Pattinson, the track made its way onto the film's soundtrack via Pattinson's version entitled "Never Think." It provided the jumping off point to begin production on Sam's first formal release. Bradley's live performances are a mixture of charming anecdotes and a colorful array of both potent originality and diversity.

When FunkMnkyz coalesced from primordial ooze, to gelatinous glob, to a loose collective on the brink of musical fusion, the initial reaction was...confusion. "We all came from different backgrounds and had our own influences. When we started playing, there were so many things going on, but we all felt right about it." Once they developed their musical understanding with one another, FunkMnkyz hit the DMV live scene and fell in love with playing loud and raucous shows without taking themselves too seriously. Gradually, their strategy more refined, FunkMnkyz graced some of the biggest stages in their surrounding area.
This year, FunkMnkyz will continue to spread and release their first full-length album: Which Way is Down. They won't name drop the incredible bands they've played with, they won't claim to save hip hop or rock and roll, and they still won't take themselves too seriously.

In the small New England town of Mystic, Connecticut, lives Barefoot Truth, an independent band that is quietly creating history. You may have never seen them on MTV, nor heard them on a Top 40 FM radio station, but with 5.5 million spins on Pandora, Barefoot Truth has quickly become a symbol of independent music success, and just may be 'the biggest band you've never heard of'. Mixing the sounds of folk, rock, jazz, and reggae, with lyrics full of unbridled optimism, the band has crafted a sound that is distinctly Barefoot Truth. Their 2010 studio album 'Threads', Barefoot Truth reached #21 on the iTunes Rock Charts, momentarily stepping ahead of bands such as Dave Matthews Band and The Fray. The new disc was noted as "The best independently released album of 2010" by ThisIsModern. Barefoot Truth happily credits Pandora Radio for their crucial role in growing the band's silent army of listeners.
Since taking the band 'full-time' in 2007, Barefoot Truth has earned spotlight attention on many levels, including an invitation to play at President Obama's pre-debate rally in New York, where they performed between Bruce Hornsby and Crosby and Nash. They were asked to lend several songs from their new album 'Threads' to the upcoming 'Nature Propelled' film, in addition to scoring original music for the film. The band has also made appearances at major festivals such as Summerfest, 10,000 Lakes Festival, and FloydFest, in addition to tallying over 100 college and prepschool performances in the Northeast. Fans of Barefoot Truth can be confident that the quiet success of this small band will grow increasingly louder, one listener at a time...

After three albums fronting alternative rock band Ours, Jimmy Gnecco has recently made the most personal and affecting album of his career. Self-produced and titled 'The Heart,' it's a watershed work which sees Jimmy drop his guard and raise the bar. The prevailing mood is one of beautiful melancholy, but 'The Heart' has dignity and integrity in spades. We all have to reckon with loss and the events that have shaped us sooner or later, and this record is Jimmy Gnecco's compelling attempt to do just that. Its elegant, elegiac songs are slow-growers that get right under the skin. It was with shape-shifting alternative rock band Ours that Jimmy first made a name for himself. A dynamic and urgent outfit that would later draw comparisons with Radiohead, they soon caught the attention of various U.S. record companies.
Jimmy signed to DreamWorks records under the Ours moniker in 1997, and his band's debut album 'Distorted Lullabies' was released in 2001.The critically acclaimed records 'Precious' and 'Mercy' (the latter handled by friend, production genius and long-term Jimmy Gnecco fan Rick Rubin) followed in 2002 and 2008, respectively. Matters beyond Jimmy's control - major label politics, for example - have sometimes slowed his output, but he has always retained his positivity, strong work ethic, and a certain blue-collar mentality, which recognises that respect has to be earned.
If you've read this far, you will understand why Jimmy Gnecco has been able to pour so much of himself into his first proper solo record, 'The Heart.' Out on Bright Antenna records Summer 2010, it's a sterling achievement; graceful, almost hymnal songs such as "Mystery" and "Take A Chance" channel a formidable talent.

Zooglobble Recommended!: "Kudos to the great taste of the DC area. You already know what the rest of the country is starting to find out - that Rocknoceros is a gem of a band."
"An outstanding mix of folk and rock...literate songs...poppy approach...multi-generational appeal." - NPR, Best Music for Kids and Families
A Rocknoceros Happy Family Hour is a night out for the WHOLE family! Rocknoceros wanted to provide a way for entire families to get a night out on the town in a safe, clean, and family-friendly way. Jammin' Java, and even the famed 9:30 Club, have presented the show to the delight of everyone!
*And don't forget the Signature Happy Family Hour drink special: BUY A BEER, GET A JUICE BOX! - the Jammin' Java bar will be in full operation.
As every family with youngsters in the DC area already knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys: Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie. After seeing them perform, there is no denying that they are not a typical trio. Coach Cotton is the ring-leader, frequently immersed in a sea of knee-high concert goers. Wearing a wireless head-set microphone, he wades through the mass of dancing children, dispersing high-fives and shaking a tambourine. Williebob provides the necessary string work for the show, moving among a collection of guitars, mandolins, and banjos while wearing a kazoo around his neck. Boogie Woogie Bennie is a one-man-band within the power trio, employing a contraption that one four-year-old fan described as "the piano-drum". The piano-drum allows Boogie Bennie to play the bass drum with his right foot, the snare drum and hi-hat cymbal with his left foot, and the keyboard with his hands (with his left hand playing the bass parts). Together, Rocknoceros is able to cover a dizzying range of musical styles in each set. From Tin Pan Alley to the shores of Jamaica, Rocknoceros hops from genre to genre like a toad on summer asphalt.
Having already released three award-winning records, the new album tells tales of the Colonel and his friends in their make-believe home of Soggy Bog. The theme of "Colonel Purple Turtle" is one of friendship and working together, a subject that matters to Coach, Boogie Woogie Bennie, and Williebob, as the three members of Rockncoeros have been best friends since they were children. The record reflects their abiding trust in each other, and their desire to share the message of camaraderie through song.

In 1972, Aztec Two-Step, whose name comes from a poem by beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, burst upon the scene with their self-titled debut album on Elektra Records. Since then Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman have spent a lifetime making music together as the folk/rock duo Aztec Two-Step. Their first album, along with their subsequent albums for RCA Records were staples of progressive FM and college radio and helped to bring the music of the 1960s into the 70s.
As their recording career continued, so did the critical acclaim. In 1987 Living in America received the New York Music Award for Best Folk Album and was named in Billboard's year-end critic's poll. They have been praised in countless major US newspapers and magazines, including Rolling Stone, and have appeared on numerous TV and radio shows such as the David Letterman Show, the King Biscuit Flour Hour and World Café Live. In 1999 they were the subjects of the documentary No Hit Wonder, aired on PBS. Forty years later, the duo is more than ever defined by intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar and inspiring harmonies. Celebrating four decades together, Aztec Two-Step releases their new studio CD Cause & Effect, produced by Paul Guzzone. With longtime friend, bassist Fred Holman, Rex & Neal revisit old and debut new "give a damn" songs from their vast and varied musical world - a very special evening!

"Porter is a dazzling acoustic guitarist with a moody baritone..." -The Washington Post
"Willy Porter captures the street corner ethic of acoustic performance perfectly." -The Village Voice
"Willy Porter is a relaxed and fearless performer who'll entertain you as well as move you." -Acoustic Guitar Magazine
"How To Rob A Bank," the latest release from esteemed guitarist/singer-songwriter Willy Porter, showcases his continued growth as a songwriter and recording artist. Porter offers a rich blend of salt and sugar with tracks that move easily from rough-hewn electric edges into soulful irony with equal aplomb. Jeff Giles of Popdose.com says, "It's another solid entry in a discography full of them, and one of the smarter, more durable albums of grown-up music we're likely to get this year."
Having toured with artists as diverse as Jeff Beck and Tori Amos, Porter capitalizes on his experience as a seasoned live performer on How To Rob A Bank. World-renowned guitarist Greg Koch had this to say about Porter's new disc: "you get the same feeling listening to it as you do from one of his solo gig's...that you are in the presence of greatness..." Each song is a fresh cross-pollination of styles, genres and musical forms. Frets Magazine called Porter "a genre-defying maverick." He continues on that path as he easily transitions from the light-hearted McCartney-esque "Lemon Tree" into "I Didn't Bring it Up," in which Porter wryly declares he "checked the oil and cleared the gutters" of mid-life marriage. In the electric guitar driven "Hard Place" he digs into three generations of an American soldier's perspective. The rest of the album includes flavors of New Orleans ("Wide Open Mind"), The Band ("Psychic Vampire") and post-bluegrass country ("Barefoot Reel").
Willy Porter "...has crafted some of his most irresistibly tuneful songs yet." (Shepherd Express) In his most recent offering on Weasel Records "Porter [is] at the top of his game, working off his creative debt to Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan," (Dave Tianen - Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel)

Nneka's raw yet distinctive style of songwriting and harmonies soon brought her to the attention of top acts touring the continent across a wide range of styles. Her audience now numbers hundreds of thousands across two continents. She opened massive shows for Jamaican dancehall bad-boy Sean Paul; then she did it again, this time for even bigger crowds with global hiphop crossover stars Gnarls Barkley. Add Lenny and Lauryn to that list and you get an idea of the sheer reach of the Nneka sound. It's a sound that places her right at the centre of the new revolution in African contemporary music today.
After packing the national stadium for performances in their home country of Sierra Leone and contributing music to the Academy Award-nominated film Blood Diamond, African superstars Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew are poised to conquer the global airwaves with their unique sound, which blends the swagger and funk of hip-hop, the passion and energy of dancehall, and the socially conscious vibe of reggae. In 2003 VCU classical guitar student Joe Evans began playing with drummer Stu Hutton on a leisurely basis in Richmond, Va. They met through a mutual acquaintance at the university. But it wasn’t until they both finished their studies that they decided to get serious about making music. Previous iterations of the band didn’t last very long until they acquired bassist (and D.C. native) Leo Mairena in 2008. Songs were written, a demo recorded, and shows were played under a different band name as well as a different vocalist. Merrin Karas truly wasn’t born until 2010 when Christine Golden joined the lineup, bringing with her a fresh set of pipes as well as keen songwriting ability to compliment the others in place. What we have here now is a rock band with various different genres influencing their writing; to the point of which we really can’t decide on what genre to belong to. Hopefully our fans will decide that for us.
Brockway was conceived in the Spring of 2011. Dan Lee had been writing songs for years and never really did anything with them. One day he decided they should be shared among fiends and family… and anyone else who would listen. Brockway is a project based solely on the music, for the music. With driving melodies and story telling Brockway strives to produce music that emmulates the essence of what can be, the heart of it - the emotion and feeling that can be derived and experienced. Brockway’s first EP, where blue meets green, gives out a taste of a hallow acoustic style as well as the inspiration and beginning of a deep and meaningful project. It is a three song EP that tells a story of pain and restoration. Each songs speaks to a different piece of tragedy and dealing with the aftermath of suffering. This album is only the begning for Brockway. This year will see more shows and a full length album, so be on the lookout.

Sprung from the hills of rural West Virginia, Logan Venderlic weaves his own brand of modern, indie-infused hooks and applies it to contemporary Appalachian folk, dubbing the creation “Folk Wave.” Logan’s self-titled debut long player follows his 2010 breakout, Manic EP, which illicited the quick and telling quip from the likes of The Wall Street Journal: “Tom Petty meets Appalachia.” Venderlic delivers magnetic songs that swing on a temperamental pendulum between the mania of childhood’s purity and the depression of adulthood concession, growing as an individual along with his music and coming to terms in appreciation of his humble upbringing. Since exploring beyond his home state while on tour, Venderlic shared stages with a diverse array of artists from The Spring Standards, American Aquarium, and Professor Louie (of The Band), to Marcy Playground, Ume, and Hawthorne Heights.

In 1962, London, England gave birth to one of the greatest bands of all time. Fifty years later, The Rolling Stones still know how to rock. If you’re never been to a Songwriter’s Circle before, it goes like this: Four frontmen step away from their backing bands and in a stripped-down setting play songs. Come hear The Blackjack’s Anthony Fiacco, Native Run’s Luke Brindley, Todd Wright, and, in a special appearance, Honor By August’s Michael Pearsall perform originals and the Stones’ greatest hits and hidden gems.

The Getaways is a group Maryland-based rockers have accomplished and achieved more than most local bands can say, with no intention of slowing down. Up and down the Mid-Atlantic region, the band has shared bills and directly supported noteworthy acts such as We The Kings (S-Curve Records), Mayday Parade (Atlantic Records), Hawthorne Heights( Wind-Up Records), Cash Cash (Univeral Republic) and Jeffree Star (Popsicle Records), just to name a few. Between the two releases, The Getaways have been featured in Substream Magazine, on Baltimore's 98 Rock (97.9 FM) radio station, and even signed a licensing deal with ESPN to have four songs off the first record featured during the 2010 Lacrosse season. However, the band's inclusion on the Maryland date of the 2010 Vans Warped Tour and the opportunity to tour the East Coast late in the summer of 2010 with Just Surrender (Razor & Tie Records) only foreshadows things to come for The Getaways in the future.

This magnetic quality has served Chris Ayer well as he has toured the country and steadily built his grassroots audience over the past 4 years. His DIY practices were given a hefty shot of adrenaline in 2007 when the John Lennon Songwriting Competition awarded him the 2006 Lennon Award in Folk for his song "Evaporate." With the award came increased visibility, opportunities to tour the UK, and many new faces in the audience at shows. The song was on Ayer's first full-length, self-released album, This is the Place, recorded in Nashville and produced by Jason Gantt (The Chieftains, Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill). Of that album, Performing Songwriter Magazine said, "This is the Place has it all: tight arrangements, excellent musicality, and imaginative lyrics. If you're looking for great music, this is the place indeed."
Through a fusion of piano Pop-Rock and Jazz, 24 year-old Singer/Songwriter Matt Simons blends his wealth of influences from Ben Folds and Gavin Degraw to Stevie Wonder and John Coltrane, into an upbeat, eclectic and fresh sound all his own. After graduating Magna Cum Laude as the President's Award Recipient in Music from the prestigious SUNY-Purchase Conservatory with a degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance, he decided musical academia was not the right path for him. Matt instead sought to follow his affection for songwriting and hasn't looked back. Supporting his current release Double EP: Living Proof + Fall In Line, Matt has been touring extensively on both the East and West coasts along with numerous shows at the mainstays in New York City, where he resides. Adam Barnes is an Oxford born songwriter and performer, currently residing in the countryside that surrounds the city. He is a folk artist; a haunting songwriter and an honest performer waiting for some more people to take a step back and listen in. The 20-year-old singer took his first steps into the lonely world of singer-song writing in 2010, with support slots for both William Fitzsimmons and Slow Club, along with the experience from years of previous musical projects. That, plus time out take a break from the musical hustle and bustle of Oxford, Adam Barnes spent a summer recording a debut E.P entitled ‘Blisters'. The 8 track E.P was released and sold UK based, selling up to a thousand copies within the year. With the natural ability to capture the emotional sentiment within a song, to twist and perceive lyrics to compliment his melodies, and give you the opportunity to fall in love with well written music, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking this man is telling you stories beyond his years.

Singer/songwriter Derek Webb continues to make iconoclastic, irresistible, radio-ready pop records about love and war and social justice. However, unlike most pop artists on the scene today, Webb's engaged, committed fan-base is constantly expanding - in part because Derek Webb has a tendency to give his music away for free.
In 2006, Webb convinced his label, INO Records / Columbia Records, to give away over 80,000 free downloads of his critically acclaimed album, MOCKINGBIRD. This widely publicized promotion more than doubled Webb's concert audiences and eventually paved the way for Webb to launch a revolutionary, new online music distribution system, NoiseTrade.
Over two years in the making, STOCKHOLM SYNDROME delivers everything listeners have come to expect from Derek Webb: indelible hooks, soaring choruses, and lyrics as politically incisive as they are emotionally revealing. Sonically, however, STOCKHOLM SYNDOME is a radical departure for Webb, who has left his acoustic, folk/rock roots behind for a sound he describes as "intentionally inorganic. STOCKHOLM SYNDROME is Derek Webb's most soulful and subversive album yet - and the most dangerous and thrilling pop record of the year.
Sandra McCracken is an independent singer-songwriter whose smart, soulful blend of folk, pop, and gospel is as progressive as it is timeless. A founding contributor of the Indelible Grace projects, McCracken's contemporary settings of classic hymns are sung in congregations across the country. Drawing inspiration from Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, and U2, McCracken crafts songs wedding razor-sharp hooks to incisive, confessional lyrics to create a transcendent portrait of the human spirit. McCracken currently lives, writes, and records at her home in East Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, Derek Webb, and their two children.

"Raise your voice, chase away the ghosts." So begins the title track from John Mark McMillan's new release, Economy. A natural progression and a departure, McMillan's latest album has moved away from the themes of death and resurrection that clothed The Medicine to the interior psychology of a man trying to live in the uneasy valley between this world and the next, standing on the edge of the ocean of eternity, straining to see beyond the horizon line.
On Economy, that tension is electric. From the first drumbeat of album opener "Sheet of Night" to the post-rock cacophony that closes out "Seen a Darkness," there is a palpable weight that permeates the entire project. This is Gospel music run through the filter of the Southern night; this is electrified folk-the music of a man who cut his teeth on Dylan and Kerouac and Springsteen all the while haunted by the presence of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost.
Economy is the sound of glory and shame, murder and race, darkness and daylight and all those spaces in between. And it shows up in the songs-in the delicate beauty of "Love You Swore," in the rowdy drawl of "Daylight," and the quiet solemnity of "Murdered Son."
For those following McMillan's steady rise as an artist, Economy will not disappoint. Having grown as a lyricist and musician-this body of work finds the North Carolina-based artist at his most mature. And sonically, the album is far greater than the sum of its parts, served by the production team of Jeremy Griffith and Joel Khouri, and performed by the musicians that have supported McMillan across the world. The team has created a perfect accompaniment to McMillan's searching, searing vision of a world that is "not as it should be."But it's not just a broken world that McMillan's singing about. With Economy, he's pointing out across the horizon, across the waters, to the hope of something
much more than the devil's "broken hearts and counterfeit currency."
"We have seen the night," John Mark sings, and then adds, "but we have seen the day."

Celebrating the release of their first album together “The McEuen Sessions” for all the good
The Circle Remains Unbroken on this 40th Anniversary concert of the release of one of the greatest albums of Americana Music “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” (inducted into the Library of Congress in 2004 as one of America’s most important recordings)
This evening with John and family will include:
Music from their new album, a special section of ‘...Circle…’ music rarely heard onstage, stories behind the recording of this landmark recording, and the music of John’s sons that has beengetting critical acclaim in their own right. John brings his renown talents on banjo, guitar, fiddle and mandolin to the stage joining Jonathan and Nathan with a performance that is unlike any other. John puts it simply “I’d hate to follow us”.
A founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (now in their 44th year) John McEuen has continually performed since 1964 - 8,500 concerts and 300 television shows throughout more than 3 million miles - both with the band and as a solo performer. Beyond performing, he has a rich history of creating, producing and preserving original and traditional folk and acoustic music, and taking it to new audiences. McEuen has made over 40 albums (6 solo) that have earned four platinum and five gold recognition awards, Grammy nominations, CMA and ACM awards, an Emmy nomination, IBMA record of the year award, and performed on another 25 albums as guest artist. He’s also produced more than 300 concerts throughout his career - the first in 1965 in Long Beach Calif., with Bob Dylan. His production of Steve Martin - The Crow won the 2010 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. The Music of the Wild West CD- produced by McEuen, was honored with the Western Heritage Award. A Grammy nomination for String Wizards II preceded the1994 Uncle Dave Macon Award for his excellence in preservation and performance of historic music. On Sirius/XM’s The Village, John’s popular Acoustic Traveller show is now in its 5th year. . McEuen produced and directed the 2006 documentary film The Dillards - A Night In the Ozarks, which captures his early mentors at their best.
McEuen’s countless jams include street performers to Phish, Earl Scruggs, Levon Helm… and even on Sesame Street with a herd of goats and a cow! Arguably, McEuen’s most important legacy may be his instigation of what Rolling Stone called “The most important record to come out of Nashville” and what the 2004 ZAGAT survey called “the most important record in country music” - Will the Circle Be Unbroken…

Luck of the Irish - beginner's luck, pure luck, rotten luck, and the luck of the draw
Instead of getting completely wasted and doing something you will regret, spend St. Patrick's Day with Better Said Than Done, and listen to stories about stupid things other people have done and lived to regret.
Storytelling can be defined, simply, as the art of telling a story, but that is open to a lot of interpretation. Better Said Than Done defines storytelling as the art of performing a true, personal story in front of a live audience. Our stories are personal. And they are stories, meaning they have a beginning, middle, and end. Most importantly, storytelling is a performance, an art, a form of entertainment, and, from our mouths, a reality the audience will not forget.
Our performers have appeared at venues throughout the area, including Chief Ike's Mambo Room, Franklin Park Arts Center, and Town Danceboutique, and have participated in the Capital Fringe Festival, DC SWAN Day, TEDx, Mortified, SpeakeasyDC, Story League, and Fan-Freaking-Tastic.

Rosie's debut album, 2001's When We Were Small, employed several friends from Cornish as studio musicians, and much of the cast from those sessions would return on the 2003 sophomore release, Only With Laughter Can You Win. If Songs Could Be Held came next in 2005, and was followed the subsequent year by Thomas' inclusion on the Paper Bag Records compilation See You on the Moon! to which she contributed the song "Faith's Silver Elephant."
Rosie's next project was a fresh return to the relaxed creative process that first drew her to entertaining through music. This meant a gathering of friends, collaborative creation, and, in the end, a sincere celebration of music and people called These Friends of Mine, issued in late 2006 through her own label, Sing-A-Long Records. The album includes the appearance of friends Sufjan Stevens, Damien Jurado, David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), and Denison Witmer. Thomas also released a 2008 Christmas album, A Very Rosie Christmas, through her label.
Bhi Bhiman's bellowing tenor can soothe or explode at a moment's notice. Bhi's mix of humor and deep empathy puts him in the company of distinguished (and much older) lifelong songsmiths like John Prine, Nick Lowe and Randy Newman. And Bhiman's technical, emotive guitar playing rises to the challenge that his striking voice presents. BHIMAN is Bhi's first truly great album, but one gets the impression that he'll be singing his stories for a very long time to come.

Much of the commentary about Darrell Scott's career has focused on the songs he's written that have been recorded by famous names and voices - those known in music industry parlance as "artists." But then there's the actual word artist, whose definition has nothing to do with radio hits and red carpets. We refer of course to those who create artifacts of aesthetic and intellectual contemplation and wonder, built from experience, skill, reflection and emotional intent. That's an artist. And that, at the end of the day, is Darrell Scott.

"...an astonishing vocal range...His guitar prowess is equally impressive; with an arsenal of impeccable acoustic techniques and an electric guitar that is downright incendiary." Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Holcomb and his band have found their own unique niche in with their 2008 LP, Passenger Seat, and their 2009 EP, Live Forever, both debuting at #2 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. They've also had multiple TV placements on shows like NBC's Parenthood, Oprah, Army Wives, The Cleaner, and others, proving that Holcomb's career has stretched far beyond the TN state limits where he was born and raised. Over the past half-decade Holcomb & the Neighbors have played over 1,000 tour dates and garnered a massive following.
When audiences hear Holcomb's songs, there is an emotional attachment and reaction, proven by the epic "Live Forever" which was recently used during an episode of NBC's Parenthood and sparked a downloading frenzy online. On Chasing Someday, Holcomb and his Neighbors have found a unique voice, one that definitely has the potential to add to the conversation in a profound and substantial way.
With no plans of pursuing music professionally, Nathan stumbled into songwriting more as catharsis than ambition. What started as a hobby after college quickly turned into a passion, one which he soon felt necessary to share with an audience. Coupled with an incessant touring schedule and attention paid to the ever-changing landscape of social media, Nathan has managed to sell over 15,000 albums independently. He's also toured with national acts such as the Fray, Zac Brown Band, Marc Broussard and Matt Wertz. In 2009, Nathan caught the attention of a major publishing company, Warner/Chappell. Compelled by his ability to mix modern-pop with classic songwriting, Warner/Chappell signed Nathan to a publishing deal, a rare occasion for an independent artist, and has since been called upon to write for the likes of Kelly Clarkson & Justin Bieber.
A commercial spin on soul-infused pop, Nathan's latest project Follow Your Heart (2011) emerges as his strongest work to date. As much an album title as it is an anthem, Follow Your Heart displays Nathan's ear for melody and keen understanding of story and reveals that he has much in store for fans both new and old.

Ray Bennett is a self taught musician from the Northern Virginia area. He's been playing acoustically at local Vienna cafes for the past year. This performance at Jammin Java marks a large step forward - the band will be performing with electric guitars and a full drum set. The music is original indie/modern folk with melodious guitar leads and thoughtful lyrics. The band draws influence from Dave Matthews Band, Bill Frisell, The Band, The Grateful Dead, Andrew Bird and the Beatles.
Formed in 2009 by drummer Gabriel De Los Santos, singer Jonathan Nichols, bassist Eric Schueler, and guitarist Kirby Vitek, the band took time developing their sound and has recently exploded into a fury of creativity. Combining elements of funk, rock, jazz, and classical, with influences ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus to Between the Buried and Me and Debussy, the band's style modulates from song to song in a manner that never ceases to impress. With the recent addition of pianist Sepehr Sobhani, their music has been brought to a new level which they are eagerly exploring. Hoping to have an EP out by early next year, Ockham's Razor will be performing as much as possible locally within the coming months and promises to entertain.

In North America, Paul Kelly is loved by a fervent following of devoted, discerning listeners. In his native Australia, though, where his songs are lodged deeply in the country's soundtrack, Kelly is virtually a national hero. In a career that spans more than 30 years, Kelly has released a steady stream of albums that showcase his emotionally vivid, musically expansive songwriting, capturing the essence of the Australian landscape while demonstrating Kelly's uncanny ability to distill a novel's worth of narrative and character detail into a straightforward, effortlessly accessible melodic pop tune.
In the years since the release of his 1981 debut album Talk, Kelly has maintained a prolific pace that's helped to win him a permanent place in the hearts of fans around the world. He traveled extensively around Australia during his youth before settling in Melbourne, where he quickly established himself as a force in that city's diverse musical community. Gossip became Kelly's first U.S. release on A&M Records, which also issued his Under the Sun and So Much Water So Close to Home. Those albums won him reams of stateside critical acclaim, while expanding his loyal U.S. fan base.
Kelly has won also won numerous awards, including eight Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards, and was induced into that organization's Hall of Fame in 1997. In spanning his entire recording career, Songs From the South (Volumes 1 & 2) demonstrates that Paul Kelly's recent output has remained as adventurous and compelling as the early work that first established him as a major artist. His songs remain as fresh and inspired as ever.

DC's premier 311 tribute band, Unity, is bringing you a special 311 Day performance this March at Jammin' Java! They will be rocking two full sets of 311 classics with enough energy to fill two stages. Because 311 Day falls on a Sunday this year, Unity will be hosting the celebration on Saturday, March 10th (worry not, for at the stroke of midnight it will officially be 311 Day!). Unity is a fusion of two rock groups, Feed God Cabbage and Irresponsible, who have developed their own respective followings through relentless work on stage and in the studio. The merger of these groups results in an explosive and wildly fun performance, complete with 311 hits and a stellar live show. Kyle Osborne of EntertainmentOrDie.com calls Unity the "ultimate 311 tribute" and says, "Don't confuse [Unity] with a bar band doing covers--The attention to detail borders on the obsessive." This is Unity's second annual 311 Day celebration, and it's a tradition any 311 fan should be a part of, so get your tickets early because they will be going fast. You won't believe your ears!

Formed in 2007, Irresponsible consists of Ryan Paladino (guitar/vox), TJ Rogers (drums), and Michael Snodgrass (bass). The band's first album, Life | Art | Love, was released in May 2010, and its follow-up, Madam Maggie's House for Wayward Boys, was released in July 2011. On the new album, the band merges influences like indie rock and reggae with Irresponsible's signature alt rock style, all the while telling a story about the house they live in -- Madam Maggie's.

..Simple hard work has also played a huge part in School Boy Humor's rise. Although SBH seem to weave together super-smart arrangements and unforgettable melodies with the greatest of ease, they would've likely never made it out of Little Rock were it not for the tireless efforts of the group's members. Very much a modern-day success story, SBH tapped Internet-age resources like MySpace to help reach potential fans, and the results speak for themselves. Interested record labels came knocking soon after.
With the EP and full-length serving as SBH's formal introduction to the world, fall 2008/winter 2009 marked a new milestone for the group, who've worked so hard and come so far just to get to this point, they have no intention of letting the opportunity slip away. Considering how infectious SBH's music truly is, there's no level of success outside of the realm of possibility. The band has recently released a NEW song, entitled, "7 Minutes in Heaven". The brothers feel that this song is the "new direction" for the band, as it still "keeps their pop-punk roots, while incorporating Top 40 elements", says Anthony. Be on the look out for these boys!
Rookie of the Year started as a solo acoustic project in the style of Dashboard Confessional, but quickly turned into a proper band by their second album. Rookie of the Year began in 2004 when Fayetteville, NC, native Ryan Dunson wrote and recorded the solo album Having to Let Go. After the album's initial self-released run, Dunson signed to the indie One Eleven Records, which reissued Having to Let Go with new cover art. In the meantime, Dunson assembled a full-band lineup of Rookie of the Year for touring purposes, backing his own vocals and acoustic guitar with Mike Kamerman on electric guitar, Pat Murphy on bass, and T.J. Holt on drums. The new and improved Rookie of the Year debuted in the spring of 2006 with The Goodnight Moon.

Formed during the summer of 2010, Fourth Quarter Comeback hit the gates at a sprint, recording their debut EP Album, "Finders Keepers" with producer Jim Ebert (All Time Low, Butch Walker) shortly after solidifying themselves as a group. Andy, Ben and Casey, despite not yet having a drummer, were able to write and record the type of music they knew they wanted to play: driving, energetic, uplifting Power-Pop, and Jim had a unique vision for where they could take their style of sound. Drummer Matt DuRousseau joined shortly afterward in the Fall of 2010, and as a band they debuted electronically in late January of 2011 with presence on Facebook, Myspace, Purevolume, Youtube, Twitter and their own website (www.fourthquartercomeback.com). With their eyes on success, the bar has been set for Fourth Quarter Comeback to jump into the Pop-Rock scene with an enormous amount of vigor and intensity; something they have definitely not fallen short of. One can only speculate as to what the future holds for this promising band, but with continued support from fans and positive feedback to their music, the sky is the limit.

Brothers, Jared and Marshall Cunningham, spent the majority of their young teenage years playing music separately. Each with a slightly different vision and direction for their music, they never gave collaborating with each other a fair shot. As they ventured through more and more failed and directionless music projects, they knew something was missing. They found what was missing when they eventually decided to join forces and create a band together. With Marshall's passion for pop anthems, and Jared's strong compositional skills, Sing Me Insomnia (SMI) began. The band was completed with their friends - Wes Beale and Jordan DePriest.
In August 2008, SMI entered the Mid-Atlantic Battle of the Bands (hosted by Jammin Java), facing bands from all over the region. Despite being the youngest group in the competition (members all younger than 18), SMI swept the opposing bands, winning first place. They didn't stop there. Putting their prize money to good use, they entered into the studio with a batch of infectious pop-rock tunes, and produced a six song EP with upcoming Northern Virginia producer, David Pavluk of The Downtown Fiction (Photo Finish/Atlantic Records). On February 16th, 2010, the first day of their debut, self-titled EP's release, Sing Me Insomnia began to create a huge buzz within the music scene - the album debuting at number 27 on the iTunes' alternative charts - all feats achieved as an unsigned act.
With a well-received EP, five consecutive sold-out headlining hometown shows at Northern Virginia's most popular venue (Jammin Java), and a large online following, Sing Me Insomnia geared up to release their follow-up EP, entitled "No Time to Waste", produced by Paul Barber (Steve Moakler, Action Item, My Favorite Highway) on March 1st, 2011. The EP dropped with a huge first week, debuting in the top 100 of iTunes top albums chart. It also allowed SMI to make their Billboard debut, ranking 9th on Billboard's South Atlantic Heatseeker's Chart.
SMI has just released their newest single, "Miss Me Now" - a huge, anthemic showstopper that's heavy enough to please any rocker, and with a gritty pop edge that will appeal to the masses. Those "oh oh ohs" won't be getting out of your head any time soon.

with a wide audience, spread positivity, and connect with their fans on a personal level.

Brooklyn-based trio, A Great Big Pile of Leaves got their start in 2007 when guitarist/singer Peter Weiland and drummer Tyler Soucy took time from their prior projects to start writing material of their own. The first six songs came together as the self-released EP The Fiery Works, which the duo put out as a free download on their Web site. As word spread online, the band's fanbase grew along with Weiland and Soucy's excitement to get back to recording. Continuing with the formula of self-producing, The Fiery Works II followed shortly afterward and was also released as a free download. Within the next year, the digital releases were downloaded over 12,000 times and the group prepared for a live setting with the addition of Tucker Yaro on bass. After playing several shows and writing a batch of new songs over the next few months, the newfound trio prepared themselves to record a full-length record Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex? The group has seen a rapidly growing fan base as well as praise on infuential sites such as absolutepunk.net where the record was reviewed with a 93% approval rating.
In the winter of 2010, a spontaneous trip to Athens, GA became the birth of New Jersey/Philadelphia indie-rock outfit Young Statues. The record first began to take shape at Chase Park Transduction Studios, where a series of songs were recorded between friends, songs that were initially never intended to be released. These songs were transformed into the impressive debut record for a band comprised of longtime friends in the Philadelphia area music scene. Full of swelling guitars, intricate vocal melodies and introspective lyrics, "Young Statues" is evidence of a group of musicians who have honed their skills and made a record to be revered for its beauty, tact, and honesty.

Their songs disguise the youth of the members of the band. Befittingly, so do the old guitars they play and old clothing they wear. But to be sure, The Milk Carton Kids have something new to present: harmonies & minimalist instrumentation which are a clear reference to times passed. To present it they use two guitars and two voices, they labor over the arrangements, they record themselves live, and they release their music on their own label, and for free. A performance by The Milk Carton Kids is a quiet and intricate affair. Kenneth Pattengale & Joey Ryan have enjoyed intently listening audiences across the country and abroad in their respective solo careers, but an even greater sense of urgency and demand of attention is palpable now that they've come together as The Milk Carton Kids.
As solo artists they have 10 releases between them. As a band their career is off to an auspicious start. Starting from a highly regarded position among their peers, they've opened for the art-piano-pop critical darling Vienna Teng, Grammy nominated friend and fan Sara Bareilles, and now will take to the entire U.S. and Canada this summer supporting one of the consummate songwriters of their generation, Joe Purdy. Despite the decision to stick to acoustic guitars in their own show, both Ryan and Pattengale are multi-instrumentalists and will also comprise Purdy's backing band, joining him on bass, pedal steel guitar, piano, and harmonies.
Trevor Menear dropped out of the sky in 2007 making his first appearance on Yoko Ono and Warner Bros. Records joint effort Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur. Along side 50 other artists which included Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, Regina Spector, Jakob Dylan, The Cure, Jackson Brown and U2; The 22yr old Chicagoan recorded his version of Lennon's "John Sinclair" with an antique Meissner 78rpm record lathe, cutting directly into a vinyl acetate. This raw introduction was more than enough to set him apart from the rest of the cast, foreshadowing the classic roots inspired nexus of his writing. Currently residing in Silverlake, CA, Menear continues to play locally both on his own and with a varying pool of musicians behind him. He is known for constantly experimenting with his live performances.

Arborea is a musical duo from Maine, formed in the summer of 2005 by wife and husband Shanti Curran and Buck Curran. Since 2007 they've toured extensively throughout the US, UK, and Europe, curated two various artists compilations; We are All One, In the Sun: A Tribute to Robbie Basho and Leaves of Life, and released several full length albums including their latest Red Planet which made Rolling Stone ‘Best Under-the-Radar Albums of 2011', Top Vinyl Pick in Mojo, Portland Phoenix Top Ten Albums of 2011, Uncut Magazine's Top 100 Albums of 2011, and Editors Top Pick in Guitar Player Magazine. Portland Mercury writer Ned Lannamann recently described their music..."If you could take a shiver and slow it down so that it lasted for 50 minutes, you'd have Red Planet, the fourth album from Arborea. It's folk music that runs through your veins ice cold, but in a way that's so compelling and irresistible you can't help be moved by it. Shanti's voice rises above sparse instrumental backing like a cool fog, and while the pair has earned comparisons to acts like Pentangle and Alela Diane, to me Arborea sounds utterly unique and entirely captivating."

Young Man follows Mitchell's critically beloved 2010 folk opera Hadestown, a modern retelling of the Orpheus myth set in a Depression era America. In 2010, Righteous Babe Records released the recorded version of her folk opera Hadestown, a modern retelling of the Orpheus myth, featuring guest singers Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Ani Difranco and Greg Brown. The album became something of a critical phenomenon in the UK, making "Best of 2010" lists in the Guardian, Sunday Times and Observer. Young Man is not an opera, but it is an epic tale with multiple protagonists. As a songwriter Mitchell takes on the voices of different characters, men as well as women. If there's a common thread in Mitchell's work-from her earliest ballads, to the opera, to this new chapter-it's that she's as interested in the world around her as the one inside her. She has a way of tackling big themes with the same emotional intimacy most artists use to describe their inner lives.
Classically trained in voice, piano, violin and viola, Rachel marries sophisticated, at times vintage, musicality to smart lyrics. With a self-taught guitar style reminiscent of Mississippi John Hurt and vocals that at times recall Billie Holiday and early Maria Muldaur, her songs range from the romantic simplicity of jazz standards to the distilled intensity of poet Anne Sexton. Ms. Ries has an adventurous ear for melody and a voice flexible enough to accomplish it. After the 2008 Righteous Babe Records release of country ep, a split 7" with friend Anaïs Mitchell, Rachel took a quiet break from the mad scrabble of touring and music-making. In 2010, ready to start making noise again, she began exploring sounds and forms different from her norm: from playing electric guitar in a rock & roll version of Wagner's epic Ring Cycle, to writing and recording the music for ReRooted, to learning how to play the drums to tour in Anaïs' band.

Like all great artists, Company of Thieves (Genevieve Schatz, Marc Walloch, Chris Faller, Marcin Sulewski) is full of ideas, whether the Chicago band is writing a concept album about a girl seeking independence in modern-day America or having the audacity to channel disparate influences like The Beatles, Billie Holliday, and Radiohead into its heady, catchy rock songs.
It's difficult to think of a harder-working group of musicians than the skilled players who make up Company of Thieves. These guys and gal are road warriors, and there's a good chance that they've already played your town a few times. They've toured with Annuals, OK Go, and The Hold Steady, played festivals like Lollapalooza and Mountain Jam, appeared on Last Call With Carson Daly, and Schatz and Walloch were given props by the veteran players when they performed on Live From Daryl's House. And it's no surprise that their songs have struck a chord with music fans both young and old: The timeless results feature an invigorating mix of rock and pop delivered with panache and soul, propelled by Schatz's powerful pipes and Walloch's inventive, expansive guitar work. They're masters of tension and release, they know when to slow things down and when to blow it all up, and there's a good chance that they're about to become your new favorite band.
San Antonio's Girl In A Coma have left a permanent tattoo on the hearts of music lovers with their piercing songs and nuclear performances. They've blazed a singular trail since Nina Diaz joined the band at age 13 and have found champions and comrades along the way including Joan Jett who signed them, Morrissey, Sia, Tegan and Sara, The Pogues and Amanda Palmer who have hand selected them for tours. In addition, Robert Rodriguez asked them to compose one of the key songs for his film Machete last year. All the while, they have been building one of the most impassioned and diverse fan bases in music. Girl in a Coma are that rare feral band, unaffected by trends, that has managed to stay wild and thrill us at every turn. Exits & All the Rest, their 4th album out November 1 on Blackheart Records, is the most heart-stopping turn yet.

Melissa Ferrick has a great deal to show for two decades in the music industry. There is the expansive body of work, mapped out over the sixteen albums that comprise her career to date, nearly all of which she distributed herself. There is the fervent fan-base that has grown with Ferrick, which has waited patiently for her latest opus for the preceding three years.
Still Right Here is folk-rock powerhouse Melissa Ferrick's first studio album in five years, combining the lyrical sophistication of Aimee Mann with the driving acoustic guitar of Dave Matthews. Featuring performances by Ani DiFranco and Kaki King, the album perfectly showcases Ferrick's finely-honed chops as a singer and guitarist, while highlighting her prowess on several other instruments including piano and drums. Co-produced by Ferrick with Brooklyn indie darling Alex Wong (The Paper Raincoat, Vienna Teng) and Thomas Eaton (Ellis Paul, Vance Gilbert), this is a sonically rich, emotionally intense album that will appeal to fans of Tegan & Sara, Ben Harper, She & Him, Jakob Dylan, Tristan Prettyman and David Gray. Ferrick decided to sign to MPress Records after years of self-distributing her albums, which at first proved a difficult to decision to make. Above all there is the sound, a voice burnished by breakdowns and breakthroughs, refined over the twenty years she has been doing this.

Carl Anderson is an American singer-songwriter hailing from Charlottesville, VA. His soulful, raw sound transgresses many musical genres. His EP, "Twenty- Something Blues" conveys his innate songwriting talent with a tone wistful longing that sounds too deeply steeped in experience to have been written by the twenty-two year old artist. Undoubtedly heart wrenching tunes such as "You Were Crying," will appeal to fans of Mumford and Sons, Ray Lamontagne, and City & Colour. Anderson's music is, however, distinctly American. Flavors of bluegrass, country, and folk music permeate his sound, honed from his past stints playing with Carleigh Nesbit and the Roosevelts. Carl has also supported the Infamous Stringdusters and Yarn, artists well known among the bluegrass circuit, and played the main stage at "The Festy Experience" music festival in October.
In 2009 he went to Nashville and scored a publishing deal with Ash Street Music. He quit his job as a waiter and threw around the idea of moving to Nashville to write songs full time. While his time in Nashville was in many ways rewarding, he decided that living in Tennessee and writing for the radio inevitably wasn't going to make him truly happy. After releasing his first solo EP "Twenty-Something Blues" (recorded at Little Rhodie Productions in Crozet, VA) he decided it was time for a full-length record. The recording of "Wolftown" at White Star Sound in Louisa, VA was a culmination of creative and artistic minds working as a single-minded entity, and, together with, Dave Stipe (Little Rhodie Productions), Stewart Myers (engineer and former bass player of Agents of good Roots), Chris Keup (White Star Sound) and several of Charlottesville's best musicians, Carl has created his "dream" record.

Leigh Nash is an American singer-songwriter who is the lead vocalist for the pop band Sixpence None the Richer and is also a member of Fauxliage and Movement Nashville. Nash's original musical influences came from classic country heroines Loreta Lyn, Patsy Cline and Tanya Tucker - whose songs she used to learn on guitar long before her Sixpence days. In the fall of 2005, Nash began to work on her first solo album titled Blue on Blue, which was released on August 15th, 2006.
Who knew that a shy young girl in New Braunfels, Texas, would grow up to become the unforgettable, Dove Award-winning, Grammy- nominated voice that breathed life into such massive pop hits as "Kiss Me," "There She Goes" and "Breathe Your Name." As lead vocalist for Sixpence None the Richer, a group she started with friend Matt Slocum in high school, Leigh's voice has taken her to stages all over the world. When the band went on hiatus in 2004, Leigh released her first solo records, Blue on Blue, and a Christmas album Wishing For This, both in 2006. She collaborated with ambient dance band, Delerium, on Fauxliage in 2007. In 2008, Nash and Slocum reunited as Sixpence None the Richer to record Dawn of Grace, and are set to release Lost in Transition in early 2012. Since then, Leigh has contributed to projects by Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Matthew West and others.

Look to the North - your new favourite singer-songwriter is coming. He has a voice of a peculiar angel, soft as a kiss, that has the ability to warm the coldest of hearts. His lyrics, gloriously tender at times, nicely twisted at others, create vivid, romantic worlds - of girls in dancing dresses and alphabet shirts; hitchhikers and cowboys; and boys endlessly, hopelessly, falling in love. He is Teitur (Tie-tor) Lassen, a boy from the Faroe Islands who turns music into magic beautifully and effortlessly.
In 2002, Teitur was signed by the legendary Doug Morris to Universal Records in the US and in 2003, Teitur released his first album, Poetry & Aeroplanes. Its simple, sincere songs made it a critical hit. He toured the USA and Canada extensively, performed on American chat shows, watched as his songs got snapped up for film soundtracks (My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Aquamarine), and attracted the attention of respected singer-songwriters like Rufus Wainwright, Aimee Mann, KT Tunstall, Ron Sexsmith and John Mayer, all of whom took him on tour. John Mayer said of the album in Esquire Magazine: "..it may be one of the best albums to come around in the last five years..". Minor radio hits in the US followed, but a real fanbase developed and the album became a cult hit, and rave reviews for gigs helped grow the story. During this time, he managed to co-write a song on the 4 million selling debut album by Corinne Bailey Rae.
In 2006, his manager started his own label just for Teitur, and called it Arlo and Betty Recordings. He released his second album Stay Under The Stars in the same year, a record full of richer writing and bolder characters, which went Gold in Denmark, spawning the huge radio hit, Louis Louis, and established him as a major star in Scandinavia and built his reputation across Continental Europe, with main stage appearances at Roskilde (opening the Festival with Radiohead in 2008), Benicassim, etc. Two Danish Grammies followed. By 2008, he had completed 700 gigs in 20 countries in 4 years, which earned him the reputation of one of the hardest working artists on the road.
During 2010, Teitur recorded his stunning new album Let the Dog drive home in Denmark and mixed it in Norway, an album which combines the quality of songs from his first album, with the broad appeal of his second, and some of the coolness of the third, The Singer. Seal heard Teitur's song "You Get Me" and recorded it for his new album, which has recently been released, going top 20 around the world.
"You never leave L.A." is scheduled as the first single in the US and the rest of the world in advance of the release, combined with an astounding animated video which took 6 months to make and a US tour planned for February to March 2012.

Red Wanting Blue has been called the hardest working rock band in America. This isn't surprising considering leader Scott Terry's decade-long dedication to the road. His songs about its trials, sung in a remarkable radio-ready baritone, are backed by his expert band's shimmering new-classic rock sound. Red Wanting Blue has toured the US for over a decade and has been releasing records on its own for almost 15 years. With only the aid of word of mouth, Red Wanting Blue has established an exceedingly loyal following in and around its loving home of Columbus, Ohio where the band regularly draws over 1000 fans a night to its shows. These passionate and poetic songs, driven by the unshakable backbeat of heartland rock-n-roll and anchored by Terry's powerful and unforgettable baritone, could only be written by a man who has lived life on the road. It's this moving combination of sound and substance that has enabled this band of underdogs to sell almost 300,000 tracks from eight self-released albums prior to recording its first album for a label.
Preceded by the single "Audition" on September 6th, 2011, Red Wanting Blue's latest album From The Vanishing Point marked an official move to the national stage for a band that will always remember where it's from.
An up-and-coming Washington, D.C. area performer and songwriter, Owen has song in his blood. Born into a musical family (his father, Bill, wrote such hit songs as Country Roads and Afternoon Delight, the latter earning him two Grammy awards in 1976), he has grown up surrounded by accomplished musicians. At age 16 he wrote his first song, but it was not until he was 20 years old, and soon to be a senior at Berklee College of Music (Class of 2011), that he began performing. He began the summer of 2010 with his first hometown performance at coffeehouse and venue Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia, and closed it out with a performance at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.
Owen's music has been described as a marriage of Jakob Dylan (& the Wallflowers) and Taylor Swift - lots of lyrical consideration, but with a healthy appreciation of pop and rock music. His other influences are many: Warren Zevon to John Mayer, Johnny Cash to Green Day. In live performance, his lyrical variety is obvious, a tongue-in-cheek number followed easily by a soulful ballad.Owen was nominated for a Wammie in 2010 in the category of New Artist of the Year, and performed his song "Song About You" at the prestigious Berklee Performance Center in March 2011.

William Fitzsimmons is one of the oddest people you will ever meet. Born the youngest child of two blind parents, William was raised in the outskirts of the steel city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Due to the family's inability to communicate through normal visual means, William's childhood home was filled with a myriad of sounds to replace what eyes could not see. The house was suffused with pianos, guitars, trombones, talking birds, classical records, family sing-a-longs, bedtime stories, and the bellowing of a pipe organ, which his father built into the house with his own hands. When his father's orchestral records were not resonating through the walls, his mother would educate him on the folk stylings of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel. By the completion of his youth and schooling, Fitzsimmons had become well-versed at a variety of instruments, at the minor expense of social standing, interactional skills, and a knowledge of proper shaving technique.
Fitzsimmons' path into music was likewise unusual, forsaking the hobby for many years to work with the mentally ill and pursue an education in the field of mental health. It was during his last semester of graduate school that William pooled monies from past birthday's, holidays, and snow shoveling outings, and bought cheap home recording equipment to begin creating songs again (the first collection of which eventually became his debut album). After finally achieving his goal of becoming a practicing therapist, William left, and returned again to his love of crafting and playing songs. He felt that is where he most belonged. Somewhere between a singing therapist, and a counselor who writes songs, is where Fitzsimmons endeavors to be. Using songs to address matters that he believes need to be addressed.
William draws from those early folks stylings of his mother's music, and the embellished instrumentation of his father's. He is often compared to contemporaries Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, and the late Elliott Smith, not only for his unique style and skill in writing and proclivity to deal with substantive and evocative subject matter, but also for his use of organic and colorful melodies and arrangements. His first two records were completely self-produced and his new album, "The Sparrow And The Crow," produced by Marshall Altman at Galt Line Studios in Los Angeles, is his first studio recorded work. While his lyricism deals often with darker undertones (his most recent album is said to have been written following his own divorce), a measure of hopefulness is always carefully blended in. Even with his short tenure as a songwriter, William has already received mention in noted publications such as Billboard, Paste Magazine, and Performing Songwriter Magazine, and his music has been featured on several television programs such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Army Wives."
Gold In The Shadow represents a welcomed musical departure, not from authenticity in writing, but in the field of focus. It is a return to his pre-music therapeutic passions, but with one eye now fixated on actual and optimistic change. It is ripe with personal elements, but also represents his first foray into external perspective taking; examining the lives and psychological struggles of those around him in addition to his own. It is an acknowledgment of the shadow self and the Todestrieb (Freud's "death instinct"); but, even still and more so, an acceptance of hope.

Beautiful, but not brazen. Passionate, but never preachy. Populist, but definitely not prosaic. New York City singer-songwriter, pianist and beatboxer Rachel Platten is by no means your average headliner-in-the-making. Her Rock Ridge Music debut, Be Here, is a bewitching collection of 10 wise-beyond-their-years piano-driven pop songs that echo elements of Alanis Morissette, Carole King, Tori Amos and Regina Spektor, while retaining a singular sense of self that is rarely found in such a young performer. Platten's uplifting, instantly catchy anthems celebrate the love and light in the world with a passionate intensity that has been missing on the radio dial for far too long.
Platten enrolled in a songwriting course at the Berklee College of Music before heading to New York City in the fall of 2006. Over the next four years, she wrote the songs that make up Be Here, put together a band and toured at every opportunity, scoring opening slots for The Strokes, Ziggy Marley, Regina Spektor, Tracy Bonham and Rusted Root. Her dynamic live shows earned raves from the Boston Globe, who called her "breathtaking and brilliant," and the New York Post, who declared that she " blend[ed] sweet delicateness with pluck."
This praise is just the beginning for this vibrant singer-songwriter. Be Here is an ecstatic confirmation that pop music can have heart, soul, depth and gravity, while still inspiring you sing along at the top of your lungs. It's time to listen up and Be Here now.
Brooklyn-based indie artist Bess Rogers has had a lifetime fascination with evolution. But it wasn't until 4 years of nonstop touring and three independent releases that the science of life began to creep its way into her songs. Her new record, aptly titled Out Of The Ocean, is a bold step forward for Rogers, and one that she has been eager to take.
After earning a bachelors and masters degree in music composition from SUNY Purchase, she began a steady routine of recording and touring in support of her own music and as a back up singer and lead guitarist for indie-pop artist, Ingrid Michaelson. Like Rogers' live shows, the songs themselves have a huge dynamic range.Like her previous releases, Bess Rogers Presents Bess Rogers (2010), Travel Back EP (2009) and Decisions Based On Information (2007), Out Of The Ocean was made and released independently.
Bess' music has been featured on such television shows as One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, Raising The Bar, and Switched At Birth, and a national Motts for Tots commercial. She has shared the stage with Ingrid Michaelson, Loudon Wainwright, Ari Hest, Ian Axel, Allie Moss and more.
