"The Maryland based pop new wave act (THE HINT) could hang in the same crowd as Jimmy Eat World and Weezer." - Dean, Kings of A&R

"Timeless music that can be as catchy as a single or as moody as something The Cure would release. I'm expecting big things from this band. Big things... definitely one of the most creative and hardworking bands on the Top Unsigned list." [THE HINT: Number 3 Top Unsigned Band] - Tim Towner, The Daily Chorus

Wednesday December 3 folk rock $20 advance/ $25 at the door - 7:30PM show

Melissa Ferrick

Jesse Harper (Old School Freight Train)

Melissa Ferrick embarks on her fall tour in support of her ninth studio album, "Goodbye Youth." Laid down in a single day during her near-constant tour schedule, "Goodbye Youth," marks a departure from the music she wrote and arranged with a team of accomplished musicians on her previous effort. It is perhaps her most intimate, stripped-down album to date. Melissa channeled her rock spirit into a fresh acoustic idiom with the assistance of engineer Scott Norton.

Thursday December 4 fingerstyle guitar $15 - 7:30pm show

Adrian Legg

"Impossible to categorize as a player, Adrian Legg incorporates virtually every genre on his guitar in a virtuosic instrumental style with effects. He brought electric approaches to acoustic playing, creating a modern cross-over amalgamation in the tradition of eclectic folk playing that goes back to the 1960s." - Guitar by Richard Chapman, 2000

"There are guitarists, there are axe-wielding maniacs, and then there are wizards. Adrian Legg is one of the wizards. He has enough technique to do just about anything he wants, but also the sensitivity to honour the contours of a melody." - Philadelphia Enquirer, Aug. 5, 2000

Voted "Guitarist of the Decade" by Guitarist magazine.

Guitar Player's Reader's Poll Winner for Best Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist for 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996

Friday December 5 acoustic/pop/folk $18 - 7:30pm show

The Kennedys

Pete and Maura Kennedy met at the Continental Club in Austin Texas. Within a few weeks, they went on their first date at Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, TX, and within a year, they were touring together, as part of Nanci Griffith's band, and as the opening act on Nanci's two month tour of the British Isles. In a dusty little dressing room on the top floor of Dublin's Olympia theatre, they penned the songs that would become their first CD, "River of Fallen Stars". The CD was awarded the "Indie" award in 1995 for "Best Adult Contemporary CD" by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors. Eight CDs and half a million miles of touring later, they enjoy loyal followings in both the guitar camp and the singer-songwriter set. Ultimately it's their tight harmonies, their chemistry, and their unashamedly idealistic outlook that has carved them their own niche in the studio and onstage.

Friday December 5 rock/soul/reggae $10 advance/$12 at the door - 10:30pm late show. Doors open at 10pm

NUMA + Politicks

"NUMA combines classic hard rock with a melodic touch, making their sound fresh and familiar at the same time. Chad's vocal style is as smooth as they come, and his voice brings a rich harmony to the classic-rock infused grooves." - Jeff Say, Feature's Editor of the Culpeper Star Exponent

NUMA delivers blazing hard rock with a groove that's been absent from the genre for decades. Fusing together honest and memorable songwriting with a brazen intensity, this dynamic band has managed to create an original sound that is truly arena ready.

*****

According to Jamie Talbot of Immortal Records, "Politicks is carving a niche all it's own that is contemporary and classic all at once." The Washington City Paper writes, "Politicks offers the American public both style and substance."

Genre-blending DC rockers POLITICKS have steadily built their following not only by consistently evolving their sound but by putting on an energetic live show filled with rock, soul, and plenty of groove. Since coming together in 2001 while at Radford University, Politicks has performed on the east coast from New York to Florida, shared the stage with several Grammy Award winning artists, recorded in Los Angeles and received regular radio play in their hometown of Washington, DC.

Saturday December 6 rock n roll for kids $8 for everyone over one year old - 11am show

The Kennedys present The Snacks!

The Snacks, in the guise of ringleaders Pete and Maura Kennedy, have been entertaining kids for over ten years. Pete is the composer of the hit song, "Air Guitar", made famous by Cathy Fink and Marcie Marxer, and the Kennedys regularly host riotous air guitar sessions. Maura's rocking guitar and fun-spirited vocals, and of course her colorful garb, have inspired a legion of "guitar toting chicks". All of their songs involve the audience as singers, dancers, and sometimes spontaneous songwriters, and the show always ends with a runaway conga line snaking around the venue. It's rock'n'roll mayhem at it's finest, and this year, other members of The Strangelings may be joining in on the action!

Saturday December 6 pop/rock $15 - 7:30pm show

Tyler Hilton full band show! + Curtis Peoples + Dave Yaden

With his sharp ear for memorable melodies, keen lyrical insights, and husky, engaging voice, TYLER HILTON has already connected with people in a big way with his 2004 major-label debut, The Tracks Of Tyler Hilton. The success of the album, an appealing slice of strummy pop Americana, and its breakout Top 40 singles have driven music fans online to post clips of themselves performing Hilton's songs on YouTube. His own videos have racked up more than 5 million views on YouTube, and his songs have garnered more than 4 million collective plays on MySpace. It hasn't hurt that the 24-year-old Palm Springs, CA, native has been featured as a "Breaker Artist" by AOL, a "You Oughta Know" artist by VH-1, and a "Breakout Star" by MTV. He has been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards, appeared as Elvis Presley in 2005's Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and held a recurring role as Chris Keller on The CW's One Tree Hill.

*****
A songwriter with an understanding for what it takes to make a great pop record, Curtis Peoples crafts songs that fans of rock to acoustic folk and pop can enjoy. With a mix of big choruses and jumping rhythms, Curtis' style of "coffee shop arena rock" incorporates the radio-friendly and inspiring sounds of U2 and Bon Jovi as well as the rhythmic jazz-folk of John Mayer and Jason Mraz into his songs resulting in his own unique musical fingerprint.

While some struggle to capture the magic of their recordings live, suffice it to say that The Classic Crime is only at their most potent and accurate in the show atmosphere.

Tuesday December 9 rap/punk $10 advance/ $12 at the door - 7:30pm show

MC Lars + MC Frontalot + YTCracker

It isn't easy being a Post Punk Laptop rapper. You're forced to lead a genre that doesn't exist, navigate around cookie cutter superstars, push yourself to make music unlike anything else on earth and spend every penny of your own money to get it all done. You meet kids at every tour date who love what you do, yet turn on MTV and see homogenized puppets that regurgitate their genres and make piles of dough in the process. You push the boundaries of DIY and give major labels the middle finger. You hope (and know) that this will be all worth it some day.

MC Lars is a member of what he dubs the "iGeneration," a group born and raised in the time of the Ninja Turtles, cassette tapes and new wave music, who now live in the age of Gossip Girls, iPhones and screamo bands. These are the kids who have grown up using the Internet as a part of their every day life. They can conveniently carry 30,000 songs in their pocket, but are faced with the glooming fact that the world's oil supply and Social Security will both run out in their lifetime. MC Lars is the hero of this new generation, addressing their thoughts and every day struggles in his music.

Bryce Case, Jr., otherwise known as YTCracker (pronounced "whitey cracker"), is a rapper, former cracker, and Internet entrepreneur. YTCracker began producing rap music in 1998 in the genre that has since become known as nerdcore hip hop. YTCracker is a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades", also making a name for himself as a professional disc jockey, computer programmer, graphics designer and webmaster.

Wednesday December 10 acoustic/pop/rock $17 advance/ $20 at the door - 7pm show

Graham Colton + Michael Tolcher + Bryan Greenberg + Tim Brantley

"I've never felt more like myself than I have on this album. I found myself, and I finally found my voice," the singer, songwriter and guitarist GRAHAM COLTON says of his most recent release, Here Right Now.

Don't call it a simple return. Call it a metamorphosis, a deep progression, an inspired evolution or - perhaps most fitting - a rewarding exercise in self-actualization. Stepping into his own in order to connect to his heart and artistic vision, Graham Colton is on tour in support of his stunning collection of pop-rock melodies, lyrics and emotions in 12 tracks that swing between love and heartbreak, trials and relief.

*****

A gifted artist in every sense of the word - writer, singer, musician and performer - MICHAEL TOLCHER deftly blends unfailing melodic and organic pop sensibilities with a deep understanding of soul, R&B and urban grooves drawn from his Southern upbringing. His debut album, I Am, is an inspired collection of songs and melodies that muse on life, love and social consciousness.

Dr. Mutulu Shakur, especially impressed with Tolcher's gift with words, says "In his music we are presented with the raw, clever rejection of the forces of NORM, without belligerences. The truth and depth of this artist inspires - begs us for a time of total honesty."

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, BRYAN GREENBERG discovered his love of acting at an early age. In 2002, Bryan landed a role as a teenager in the big budget feature The Perfect Score and then received a recurring role as Jake on the WB series One Tree Hill. Recently Bryan starred in ABC's October Road and he will have multiple movies released over the next year.

Before becoming an actor, Bryan's first passion was for music. Amplifying his successful acting career, Bryan has recently had his songs featured on October Road and One Tree Hill. He has also had original songs placed in HBO's Unscripted and has shared the stage with Gavin DeGraw, Michelle Branch, and Tyler Hilton.

In 2007 Greenberg released his debut album, Waiting For Now, and is hitting the road this year to personally share his music with his fans worldwide!

This is the re-scheduled Bryan Greenberg date. All tickets for the cancelled shows on 10/15 and 10/30 are valid for this new date. Robbie Schaefer "Strange and Lovely World" CD Release Show with Special Guest John Jennings

"The folk-pop of Robbie Schaefer has a sweet, old-fashioned quality; his lyrics reveal a mischievous side." - Cookie magazine

Robbie Schaefer's mom thinks he's really great—In case you haven't spoken with her lately, Robbie Schaefer is the guitarist and songwriter for the acclaimed independent folk/rock band Eddie From Ohio. Although the indie model has become increasingly common in the music industry, Eddie From Ohio actually helped pave the way, building a fan base through relentless touring and grassroots marketing beginning in 1991. Having created a large and loyal following across the U.S. and Canada (the mailing list now tops 25,000 names), the band has also released 9 CDs, selling upwards of 150,000 copies, all on their own Virginia Soul Records.

In recent years Robbie has also turned his musical attention toward solo projects, (releasing In The Flesh, a live solo album, in 2003), composing and recording the theme song for the theatrical production Gulf View Drive (by New York playwright Arlene Hutton), which premiered at the Actor's Co-Op in Hollywood, CA in 2006, and re- leasing his first CD for kids and families, Songs For Kids Like Us on Rocket Pop Records in 2006. The success of Songs For Kids Like Us led to a wealth of opportunities for Robbie, culminating in his arrival as Music Director at XMKiDS on XM Satellite Radio. His show, "Robbie Schaefer's Stuck In A Real Tall Tree," airs Monday-Thursday at 7PM (EST) and Saturdays at 10 AM (EST).

His performance at Jammin' Java marks the release of his new solo studio album with John Jennings (Mary-Chapin Carpenter, John Gorka, Catie Curtis) producing. Robbie's mom is currently clearing space on her CD rack for the multiple copies she plans to buy.

Elizabeth, Phil, and Chris

Elizabeth Coyle's songs are best categorized as a colorful blend of folk, blues and jazz with soulful and soaring vocals. Elizabeth's lyrics offer stories of love, intimacy, loss and an understanding and honest expression of the realities of everyday life. Her acoustic trio CD, "Live at Jammin' Java," released in December of 2006, features Elizabeth accompanied by the skillful arrangements and instrumentation of Phil and Chris from The Lloyd Dobler Effect. This album features several fan favorites, such as "Jessup," "Secret," and "The Waltz." The CD also features a beautiful and haunting rendition of Green Day's "Holiday.

This year's acoustic trio performance is the third annual holiday show for the trio. They will be releasing a new CD at this performance and they will be announcing some really BIG NEWS! A must-see acoustic evening that will kick off your holidays.

Sunday December 14 roots/rock $12 advance/ $15 at the door - 7pm show

Carrie Rodriguez + Carsie Blanton

Pigeonhole Carrie Rodriguez at your peril. Sure, she's done a lot of duets. She plays a fiddle (a mean one at that). She's recorded songs with a pleasing, folksy twang.

But don't think you know what you're getting. Not yet 30, and with a critically-acclaimed solo record and several well-received duet records in her wake, the classically trained singer/songwriter has just begun flexing her artistic muscles, still figuring out how far her talents will take her. If you're looking for someone playing it safe and sticking to tried-and-true ways of music making, as the title of Rodriguez's daring new album aptly states, SHE AIN'T ME.

"Because I took some chances, wrote with some new people and actually co-wrote most of the songs on the album, it's very different," Rodriguez notes.

Also different: Malcolm Burn's dense production, bulging with thoughtful details, yet always serving the song. "If the song doesn't hold up on its own, without all the production, he doesn't want to have anything to do with it," Rodriguez says. "And he was much more into the vibe than perfection-which is good for me, because my tendency is to try to make things perfect."

The songs on SHE AIN'T ME, Rodriguez's second solo outing for Manhattan/Back Porch, come from an introspective place, rife with self-assessment and questioning. "It comes from having to really look within yourself when you're forced to be alone, and to not be afraid of that process," Rodriguez says. "Taking some time off from the road this year to write allowed me to do some growing and reflecting that I often put aside when I'm touring all the time."

*****

"Carsie Blanton is a rare talent as a modern songwriter. Her sly wit and urbane imagery reminds me of a folky, female Cole Porter. I'm really happy to know that classic songwriting is in good hands with Carsie Blanton." - Singer/Songwriter John Oates (of Hall & Oates)

Monday December 15 americana/roots $10 - 7pm show

The Dog Waggers "Wassailing With the Waggers"

The Dog Waggers have been called a folkier Last Train Home, a rootsier Barenaked Ladies, and one fan even claimed their songs sound like stuff from the Grateful Dead's American Beauty.

But if you ask the Dog Waggers, they'll tell you that musical comparisons like that are pretty cool but don't really describe their style. They call it a Northern Virginia gridlock rockin', Lone Star State longin', front porch pickin' kinda thing. Simply put, original Americana.

Wednesday December 17 pop/rock $10 - 7:30pm show

The Lucky Day Christmas Show + Ellen Cherry + Joel Stein

The Washington City Paper proclaimed, "Lucky Day creates some of the most ear-pleasing Brit-poppish sounds we've heard in a while." On Tap Magazine said, "...Patchen's crystalline delivery is sure to draw comparisons to Kay Hanley or Vanessa Carlton. Combining a mid-'90s style instrumental assault with the glossy vocal sheen of today's top forty pop, Lucky Day is an agreeable, likeable band that writes catchy songs." At the second annual Lucky Day Christmas Show, the band will feature popular Christmas songs in addition to their original pop-rock music.

Thursday December 18 rock $10 - 8pm show

Rude Buddha + Ghosts of Pluto + Cerca Trova

Rude Buddha was formed in 2000. The guys tour and tour and tour and love what they do! You can tell when they play live. Non stop energy and a constant hook will keep your eyes wide open and your ears focused on what's being said. The message is key for all music and that they understand, so listen closely because there's something in their music that you can relate to.

Friday December 19 rock/country/rockabilly $20 - 8pm show

Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun "Holiday Show"

Grammy nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step on any stage, play those trademark licks which drove the seminal Commander Cody classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top Ten nationwide, and elicit instant recognition for a career thats spanned over 30 years and includes performances with names like Nick Lowe, Emmylou Harris, Doug Sahm, Elvis Costello and Danny Gatton. Named A Titan of the Telecaster by Guitar Player Magazine, he celebrates an American musical tradition where country music draws upon its origins in blues and bluegrass, and in the Western swing of Texas and California honky tonks. An apt description of Bills singing, songwriting and guitar playing skill is provided in this quote from Nick Lowe: He's like a devastating culmination of the elegant and funky... a really sensational musician, with enormous depth.

Formed in January 2005, My Favorite Highway quickly captured the heart of their local scene with their unique, polished sound and their "boys next-door" image - and designs to do the same throughout the rest of the country.

After releasing two well-received EPs, the band spent the Fall of 2007 writing for their full-length debut "How To Call A Bluff". This eleven track full-length is is now available and features ten brand new tracks and one old song. Now that the record is released the band plans to tour full-time until they conquer the world, take over the FM radio waves and win a Grammy.

*****
"Rarely do I receive a CD from a new artist that is this well written, produced, and sung. For it to come from someone still in high school, and this mature a work, is nothing short of amazing." - Michael Jaworek, The Birchmere

"So let's get this out of the way now: Chelsea Lee is 17. As in, born in 1991. It's not a gimmick, it's just the chronological way things are. It's too easy to say she sings beyond her years, but she does. The maturity and professionalism showcased on stage and on disc are hallmarks of seasoned veterans, yet the chestnut haired charmer - who carries herself with the same sophistication as she performs - has it all. And she mixes the professionalism with youthful enthusiasm because singing is fun. It's what she does." - Buzz McClain, The Washington Post

JEWMONGOUS

"Wildly funny... Part of a new breed of Jewish hipster comedy that includes Jon Stewart, Sacha Baron Cohen and Sarah Silverman." - PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS

JEWMONGOUS, a comedy song concert with occasional guests, is the colicky, uncircumcised brain child of SEAN ALTMAN: the golden-voiced song-writing wiz and former leader/founder of Rockapella (yes - of "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?" TV fame). Sean was featured in Time Out New York's cover story "The New Super Jews" and in the New York Times feature about "the Jewish Hipster Movement." He debuted JEWMONGOUS in 2006 and has drawn press accolades and sold-out audiences in 25 major U.S. cities.

Friday December 26 rock $15 - THE 4:30PM SHOW

The Friday Night Boys + The Bigger Lights + Mercy Mercedes + The Downtown Fiction

The Friday Night Boys formed in the winter of 2006 for one purpose...to party harder than any other band. Though the band loves to party, their talent and potential extends far beyond the beer pong and flip cup tables.

Through a combination of masterful guitar work and three-part vocal harmonies during their live show, the band is consistently selling-out local venues and quickly generating national attention. Equipped with infectious pop songs and recently acquired college degrees, FNB is rapidly on the rise. Members Andrew Goldstein (Vocals/Guitar), Robby Reider (Bass), Mike Toohey (Guitar/Vocals), and Chris Barrett (Drums/Vocals) set out to create music that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.

*****
With an infectiously energetic sound that draws equal comparison to pop and arena rock, The Bigger Lights have made significant strides in the last year. The self-produced and recorded EP "Third Act Stories" was released to the rave review of fans and industry alike in November of 2007. Within six months of formation, the band was selling out hometown shows and began receiving significant label attention. The group signed with indie powerhouse Doghouse Records (The All-American Rejects, Say Anything, Jet Lag Gemini) in the summer of 2008, less than one year after forming.

With their debut EP for Doghouse Records (titled "Fiction Fever") slated for an early fall release and upcoming tour dates all across the country, the future is bright for The Bigger Lights. "We're very thankful and excited to be where we are right now," says Topher. "But not a whole lot has changed. We're still just kids writing songs in our basement."

Mercy Mercedes hails from the streets of Greensboro, North Carolina where they have molded a new wave of pop rock music with a craze that will make you want to throw your hands up in the air and sing along. After recently acquiring a full-time touring schedule and self-releasing their own EP "Casio Rodeo," Mercy Mercedes went on to sell over 4000 CD's online and on the road in a matter of a few months. Not long after, they inked a deal with The Militia Group and are planning big plans for 2009 and beyond...

THE ECHO BOOM brings it all together; a fluid mix of mainstream sounds displaying the pinnacle of diversity and modern culture. Hailing from Washington D.C., VIOLET SAYS 5 packs a mighty wallop with ferocious, soul-shattering guitars, and a rhythm section that could be considered a force of nature. Propelled by front-man Ethan Spalding and his ability to make words sound as if they were soaked in bourbon, Violet Says 5 is a band for the ages. Their brand of funk, rock, and hip-hop answers the question, " What would a mixture of 8Ball and MJG, Led Zeppelin, and Red Hot Chili Peppers sound like?".

*****
Victory Red is a Northern, VA/DC based band that includes four people who each play different musical instruments. The people in the band use their abilities to play these instruments for the purpose of creating 3 to 5 minute-long songs that people can rock and/or dance to. Sometimes the band accomplishes this feat by performing their original music at a live music venue.

The band is quickly gaining attention throughout the DC area by masterfully enfusing the sounds of 70s and 80s rock with 90s and current rock to create an original sound known as "rock."
