Priscilla Ahn

+ Willoughby

Singer-songwriter Priscilla Ahn embarked upon a career the old-fashioned way: she packed her belongings in a car - “two guitars, clothes, and some other junk I really didn't need to bring” - and left her Pennsylvania home for L.A. That she found steady gigs - a supportive circle of fellow artists and a record deal in a relatively short period of time, give or take several months of bad waitressing jobs - will come as no surprise after a single listen to “Dream,” the lilting opening track of A Good Day, her full-length debut on Blue Note Records. Ahn artfully balances youthful whimsy and grown-up sophistication, playing guitar and singing in a warm, welcoming, and stunningly self-assured voice.

Will Hoge

+ The Spring Standards

Decades ago, before the first rock and roll idols turned music into a product, musicians played music the way cobblers mended shoes and carpenters built homes. It was a trade like any other job and men did it for work, for wage. Young men would pack their station wagons with gear and travel from city to city to play their songs. For these musicians, it was not only all they wanted to do but all they could do. They were not in search of fame or fortune. It was simply a life in music. Welcome to the world of Will Hoge.

Friday August 8 pop/rock $12 - 8pm

Shane Hines

+ Your Vegas + Better Days Trio

Sometimes the songs that hit us best are the ones that we don't even realize we are listening to. It is strange how that can happen. Stumbling into an unknown venue, pacing through our nightly rituals, driving in our car. A voice is heard that seems to be sharing time with us rather than demanding our attention. While there is no secret to how we hear these songs, there does seem to be a new friend in the playlist and his name is Shane Hines.

Grabbing the attention of MTV, Shane's song "My Hope Is" closed the final episode of The Real World Key West by softly suggesting the words "I think I'm feeling fine / I'm better / Alive". While it may seem easy to adopt the idea that there is another way out, Shane has crafted albums of songs suggesting just the opposite.

Saturday August 9 music for families $10 - 11AM

Ellis Paul

Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. He was a principle leader in the wave of singer/songwriters that emerged from the Boston folk scene, creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk pop style that helped renew interest in the genre in the 1990's. For this special performance he will be performing songs from his children's album, The Dragonfly Races.

Saturday August 9 country/rock $15 - 7PM early show

Laura Cantrell

"This project feels like a step forward for me," Cantrell notes. "But at the same time, I feel like I'm going back to my roots, making music purely for myself. Delving into these songs allowed me to feel my way through the music and rediscover my instincts."

Trains and Boats and Planes features Cantrell's first new recordings in three years, ending a temporary hiatus during which her attentions were focused on raising her new daughter. The new, all-covers collection adds a vibrant new chapter to the artist's distinctive, deeply personal body of work, which has artfully merged her lifelong affinity for American country and folk traditions with an unmistakably contemporary sensibility. The result is timelessly resonant music that's unmistakably personal and thoroughly original.

The British daily The Independent called Cantrell "arguably the most vital new country voice in decades," while The New York Times praised "the kind of cosmic wistfulness that the best country and folk music can conjure when it dreams of the past." The Wall Street Journal described her as "sweet and steady, sneaking up on you with a light touch and a sustained passion." London's Sunday Times noted, "She picks great songs to sing, and her clear, understated voice proves the perfect vehicle to convey the emotion-drenched lyrics." Rolling Stone called Cantrell "a modern woman with an old-timey heart, with a voice pitched somewhere between the bluesy realism of Lucinda Williams and the vintage femininity of Kitty Wells."

Priceless Enuendo is a musical group composed of three individuals that enjoy making music that calls ideas into question. such as the idea of life or something simple like the idea of just walking around and doing nothing. Everything should be called into question at some point. We will be going into our fourth year of doing this soon, this may seem like nothing to bands that have been around for longer. but we started at a young age so this feels like a lifetime. To those who enjoy the music we make, we would love your support in any way possible, it may be something as simple as showing your friend. or something like having us play somewhere. Friday August 22 pop/rock $10 - 7pm early show

The Midnight Appointment EP Release Show + David Homyk

Friday August 22 reggae/dub/funk $10 - 10pm late show

See-I + Mojai

Mojai was born out of the deepest, darkest regions of P-funk's bootyhole and was raised on the Headhunters' hearty funk stew, all while huffing the stanky fumes of Albert Ayler's sonic assault. They matured through Sly Stone's freaky teachings and came of age under the influence of Prince's pussy control. Now, fully formed, Mojai travels the world seeking to destroy those that would bring squareness into the land by laying down only the dirtiest brown round grooves through weapons of mass dis-funk-tion.

SEE-I is an 8-piece roots reggae band from Washington, DC. While SEE-I is a solid reggae band, there are many other influences that can be heard in the music ranging from blues to rock, latin, soul, funk and brazilian beats. This makes sense because of the variety of bands that the SEE-I band members hail from. 4 of the 8 members are part of Thievery Corporation and other bands represented include All Mighty Senators, Fort Knox Five, Sin Miedo, Thunderball, Nayas, International Velvet, Soul Brazil and others. All of these experiences and influences combine on stage to create a unique sound that can best be described as a reggae jam band. SEE-I delivers a positive vibe that keeps the dancefloor packed and grooving all night with smiles on everyone's faces.

Just This Guy Concert Event featuring Kelley McRae + David Morreale + Ben Arthur + Brianna Lane

This chick puts the word "singer" in singer/songwriter. Brianna grew up in Minnesota so you can blame her sweetness on her roots but this girl has been on the road non-stop for three years so you can hear her experiences in every note she sings. She has a voice and a presence beyond her years. She strums an acoustic guitar with the same sweetness and power in which she sings. Brianna is currently touring nationally with Liz Stahler on the "Boston to Austin Tour" supporting health and wellness and raising money for various charities.

Kelley McRae, an artist living in Brooklyn, made her CD debut in 2006 with the album Never Be. The album received rave reviews, including four stars in Paste magazine and her performance on WNYC's 'Soundcheck' was named one of the year's best. The album also led her to reunite with an old friend, director Lear Debessonet, who called on her to write and perform the music for Brecht's "Saint Joan of the Stockyards" at legendary NYC theater, PS 122. The show received a glowing review in the NY Times. These successes, along with the stand-out track "Johnny Cash," put her on the map— at least the Lower Manhattan music and theater map. With her forthcoming release, Highrises in Brooklyn, produced by Brian Deck (Iron and Wine, Modest Mouse, Josh Ritter, Counting Crows), she deserves more longitude: at least three more time zones.

Sparky's Flaw + The Midnight Appointment EP Release Show

Take four best friends, a small town in Virginia called Charlottesville, hundreds of practice sessions in their parents' attics, and a college buddy from another small VA town (Falls Church), and you have SPARKY'S FLAW. Will Anderson, Kit French, Johnny Stubblefield, Alex Hargrave and Nate McFarland are SPARKY'S FLAW - think Maroon 5 and The Fray. With the kind of raw energy that tends to only occur when the musicians on stage also happen to be best friends, SPARKY'S FLAW has the pop sensibility to take over the world, one small town at a time.

Saturday August 23 rock $10 - 10pm late show

Politicks + Square Trio

Sunday August 24 acoustic/pop $10 - 8pm

Keaton Simons + Curtis Peoples + Todd Carey

When considering the roll call of rock’s most influential icons, those rare artists that pose a triple threat are the ones that consistently stand out, musicians that seize the spotlight through their singing, songwriting and instrumental prowess. That hallowed breed of musician has become increasingly less common in popular music, so it’s especially worth noting that Keaton Simons also qualifies as a triple threat, given that his multifaceted talents have garnered him a presence on radio, television, film and the concert circuit. It’s an especially auspicious distinction for an artist who is only now on the cusp of releasing his debut album, the prophetically titled tour de force, Can You Hear Me, on CBS Records.

A songwriter with an understanding for what it takes to make a great pop record, Curtis Peoples crafts songs that fans of rock to acoustic folk and pop can enjoy. With a mix of big choruses and jumping rhythms, Curtis’ style of “coffee shop arena rock” incorporates the radio-friendly and inspiring sounds of U2 and Bon Jovi as well as the rhythmic jazz-folk of John Mayer and Jason Mraz into his songs resulting in his own unique musical fingerprint.

"Texas in Vienna" featuring Tommy Alverson + Brian Burns + Bob Livingston

TOMMY ALVERSON has long been a dynamic fixture on the Texas music scene and respected by all whom cross his path. He has received abundant radio airplay with his hit single "Una Mas Cerveza" and continues to expand his loyal fan base throughout Texas, as well as over seas with his songwriting and soulful performances. Whether he's on a stool solo or with a full band, his talent shines through in every note he sings and plays.

Brian Burns is one of Texas' premier singer/songwriters. His masterful weaving of Texas music and Texas history has earned him awards such as Texas Artist Of The Year, Texas Solo Artist Of The Year, and Record Of The Year. His critically acclaimed CD, The Eagle & The Snake: Songs Of The Texians, has been hailed nationally as a musical and historical masterpiece. The album's most successful single, I've Been Everywhere (In Texas) has topped radio playlists and music charts (including a five-week entry on Radio & Records, the industry's major reporting music chart).

BOB LIVINGSTON has never been a traditional Texas country musician living the honky-tonk life even though he's spent more than his share of time on the roadhouse circuit with the likes of the Lost Gonzo Band, Jerry Jeff, Ray Wylie, Michael Murphey, Larry Joe Taylor, Pat Green and a slew of other singer-songwriters in Texas.

Thursday August 28 reggae/dub/rock $10 - 9:30pm late show

Passafire + Lionize + Three Legged Fox

Four years and multiple tours since their inception in the Spring of 2003, the Savannah, Georgia based reggae-rock outfit Passafire has enjoyed national recognition. Their 2006 self-titled debut and energetic live performances have created a noteworthy buzz across the country and beyond.

Combining roots reggae, progressive rock, and experimental dub, Passafire has crafted a recognizable sound all their own. Nick Kubley's tight and versatile drumming paired with his brother Will's innovative, effects-heavy bass work creates a textured rhythmic backdrop. Ted Bowne's soulful, dubbed-out vocals and solid guitar riffs mesh seamlessly with Adam Willis' vintage keys and colorful synths.

They attribute their success to a truly independent business model and a strong grassroots connection to their fanbase.

Ted Bowne, lead singer and guitarist, comments, "We are thankful to have fans who love the music and have supported us wholeheartedly from the beginning."

Loudmouth Promotions presents Dreaming of Eden + DieManic + The Common Threat + Madrone

Rising from the ashes of DC's notorious Full Minute of Mercury, Die Manic, featuring Tom Benca, Dan Cord, Matty Wycoff, and Chris Dixon (of FMHg fame) and Bito Mann (from LA based Arithmetic of War) is the split personality/evil twin of their female-fronted synth-pop predecessor.

The band, which translates literally to,"The Manic," live up to their name by combining metal, hardcore, rock, and pop in a way that can only be described as bi-polar. Think old school Anthrax and Megadeth meets Killswitch Engage, with transitions sometimes so absurd that they make System of a Down look like Diane Warren. And when you're done mulling that over, stop thinking completely - because between the tastefully interjected hook choruses and Bito's frenetic and unpredictable scream/sing vocals, there simply isn't a logical point of comparison to the ban
